Draft grades are always just guess work the day after. It takes years to determine a successful draft. But I'll give it shot anyway. Something to do.

B

Woulda rated it higher but Lewis, while being a first round talent, is a risky pick. And Jefferson, while being a safe pick, doesn't address their need at that position. They need a speedster who can stretch the field. Jefferson is more a possession type receiver. Those guys are needed but we already have two of them. Loved the Akers and Burgess picks.

Here's how some of the prospects were ranked.

Player, pos. (Scott Wright, CBS, DTP)

Akers, RB (#5, #4, #5)
Jefferson, WR (#16, #18, #14)
Lewis, Edge (#7, #5, #9)
Burgess, S (#7, #6, #16)
Hopkins, TE (#6, #5, #1)
Fuller, S (#20, #15, #13)

I don't think we did bad at all.

I gave it a B+. I was tempted to give it a B but I had it rated as B+ for rounds 2 and 3. That carried more weight with me than Day 3. The Rams filled some of the key departures in Gurley and Cooks with solid players. I generally don’t like players with a history of injuries in college. However I trust Snead and McVay.

All read to be very intelligent, hard-working over-achievers with good character.

I know it's only just a draft but I like it, like it, yes I do.

The full draft I give them a D. Waited til the 7th round to draft an OLineman, and it was a comp pick. No DLinemen, or CBs drafted either. I give it a D. It would have been an F, but Terrell Lewis and Clay Johnston pushed it up to a D.

The Sporting News

16. Los Angeles Rams
Grade: B+
Draft picks: RB Cam Akers, WR Van Jefferson, OLB Terrell Lewis, S Terrell Burgess, TE Brycen Hopkins, S Jordan Fuller, LB Clay Johnston, K Sam Sloman, G Tremayne Anchrum

The Rams got their replacements for Todd Gurley, Brandin Cooks and Dante Fowler Jr. right off the bat. Lewis was the best pick of the three, but Akers and Jefferson have good opportunities to improve on their college production. Hopkins was a steal later for some depth. There was no early linebacker to help replace Cory LIttleton, but Burgess can be useful in coverage. Les Snead and Sean McVay finish right in the middle.

52) Los Angeles Rams: RB Cam Akers, Florida State — It’s the fifth RB the Rams have drafted since 2014, but we’re willing to overlook it because Akers is one of our favorites at the position. He was held back by FSU’s bad offensive line and unimaginative scheme, which won't be an issue in L.A. His quick feet, receiving chops and “Wildcat” QB skills make Akers a fun playmaker for Sean McVay. But did they really need him? It’s a debate. Grade: B-.

57) Los Angeles Rams: WR Van Jefferson, Florida — Jefferson will be ready for the league, given that his dad is the Jets’ WR coach and a former 10-year pro. But again, the Rams dip into a position where they’re in somewhat solid shape. We like Jefferson as a player; he works crisp routes and has good hands. But the fit and value are a little suspect in our eyes. Grade: C.

84) Los Angeles Rams: EDGE Terrell Lewis, Alabama — We graded Lewis, the player, very highly. Despite only playing about 700 defensive snaps for Nick Saban, Lewis flashed some borderline first-round ability as a leggy, twitchy rusher who can also drop into short zones. But major injuries hindered his development, and some teams were a little freaked out by his medical report at the combine. If Lewis stays healthy, the Rams got a really fascinating talent here at a need spot. Grade: B+.

104) Los Angeles Rams: S Terrell Burgess, Utah — Before last season, most scouts had not done much work on Burgess, who'd played sparingly. But he moved from corner to safety and set a tone early in 2019, turning in good performances vs. USC and Washington State. Burgess is not overly physical and has a very compact frame, but possesses some good speed, strong tackling and nice positional versatility (deep-halves safety, nickel corner, occasional blitzer). Grade: B-.

We musta really fooked up the 5th, 6th and 7th round JPM, to get a "D". :D

Here's another one. Of course it came out of Cleveland where they are used to terrible drafts.

Los Angeles Rams: B-

Breakdown: Picking Cam Akers instead of J.K. Dobbins is one I have a hard time figuring out. Akers has some talent and played behind a poor Florida State offensive line. But Dobbins has special ability and would have looked good in this offense.

They made up for it with some solid picks. Van Jefferson is an outstanding route runner, Terrell Lewis can be a really good pass rusher when healthy and Terrell Burgess has good coverage ability. The Rams started off rough, but ended up with a solid day.

I give it a solid B+.

They addressed the positions I expected, albeit not in the order I projected. I like how they created contingency plans for future cap decisions.
