More willing to throw downfield. If he makes a mistake he doesn't change what he does. He'll still attack the defense. He has less fear. Goff seemed to get tentative, afraid to make a mistake. And he still made mistakes.football is a funny game....stafford regularly ranked near the bottom in average depth of pass throughout most of his years with the lions, that changed in 2019 when the lions brought in bevell from the seahawks (a team that made a living throwing down field with wilson) - in one season stafford went from ranking 34th in avg depth of pass (2018) to 1st with bevell in 2019... he ranked 8th in 2020 and currently ranks 8th thru week 6.conversely goff went from ranking 8th in avg depth of pass in 2018 to 27th in 2019 and then 35th in 2020. by snackdaddy 2 years 7 months ago Total posts: 9707 Joined: May 30 2015 Merced California Hall of Fame The Athletic: Biggest difference between Goff and Stafford POST #12 CanuckRightWinger, BobCarl liked this post When they gave that contract, I'm sure the expectation was that he hasn't reached his ceiling. He came off a couple pretty good years so why not think that? He wasn't even 25. If he's going to be a franchise quarterback you gotta lock him up if you want to keep him for years. But never got better after that. In fact, he regressed. The book on him is that pressure will rattle him into mistakes or playing too conservatively. Basically playing scared to make a mistake. He didn't do anything to change that perception. He's still young enough to turn it around. But playing Detroit just might damage his chances and maybe ruin his career. He's a guy who can perform at a high level if he's got good coaching and supporting cast. He's also a guy who can look bad when everything around him is bad. 2 by SoCalRam78 2 years 7 months ago Total posts: 1086 Joined: May 25 2015 SoCal Pro Bowl The Athletic: Biggest difference between Goff and Stafford POST #13 Elvis, BobCarl liked this post Rams would be a bad team this year with Goff. Don't see why that would be case now. Especially considering this year we've had one of the easier schedules in recent memory. After week 8 we will have only played 2 teams with a winning record. And Tampa had many key players out when we played them. That said....Staff is doing his part as he should based on current circumstances.
