I watched some of the summer league game last night. Upshaw is a big guy but he needs work. My guess is he's a project for down the road. I do like Nance's hustle. I think he's got a chance to stick with the team. Russell definitely has skills, but they're still pretty raw. Its gonna take time. Clarkson picked up where he left off last season. I think he's gonna be pretty good.

As far as the first game, Okafor looked ready to step in and be a starter from day one. I hope they made the right choice with Russell. Okafor's got some skill for a big man.

Russell was they guy I wanted to see. He didn't exactly dazzle and take over out there. But he had his moments. I'm hoping he improves as the summer progresses. He's definitely got the potential. It make take more than a year though.

I like the Upshaw find due to his up side. If the Lakers can get him to keep his nose clean (tough job in the NBA) he could be a great back up center behind Hibbert. Pair them and our big back line is back. Upshaw reminds me bit of Odom for whom the Lakers gained a lot of experience in babysitting.

I watched the Lakers vs Wolves game but missed the Sixers game today due to a prior commitment, my thoughts on Russell is for a rookie point guard he shoots a lot, I didn't see much penetration except for Clarkson, who was the best player on the floor imo...Read the game story on the Sixers game today & Russell got spanked a bit by the writers for his poor shooting & once again Clarkson was the best player on the floor...They played some "D" in the 2nd half against the Sixers after Byron Scott read'em the riot act at halftime, it showed when the 3rd qtr started according to Lakers.com & sustained throughout the 4th qtr as well...The Lakers are now 1-1 & I just hope Russell will work on his ball distribution skills the rest of the pre-season & work on his shot in practice...The guy clearly has skills but I think I'm hoping for the resurrection of Magic Johnson with Russell & that ain't gonna happen, after 2 games he's just ho-hum, that will change once the jitters settle down I'm hoping & my expectations settle down as well...

Yeah, I don't think anyone's gonna confuse Russell with Magic when it comes to distributing. Russell wants to be a scorer. If he scores like Curry, then I'm ok with it. Otherwise, he needs to work on the running the offense and making everyone around him better.

Had a hiccup in my life recently & really wasn't aware of this guy, heard Hacksaw allude to Upshaw a few times but haven't watched college BB for a couple years...Sounds to me like the Lakers stepped in do-do & came up smelling like roses if the light goes on for this guy, sounds like a unique talent...Sad story really when you realize the opportunity this young man has & he could blow it all in a heartbeat...He has an opportunity with one of the elite franchises in sports & riches he can't even imagine...Hope this is a story of success & not a "life down the drain" story...

er, finally? This is for Sept. 14, 2015:

Lakers sign center Robert Upshaw

The Los Angeles Lakers signed undrafted free-agent center Robert Upshaw to a multiyear deal, the team announced Monday. The talented-but-raw shot blocker is expected to play at the team's upcoming training camp, with the possibility of earning a spot on the 2015-16 roster.

The 7-foot Upshaw played five games for the Lakers at this year's Las Vegas Summer League, averaging 1.4 points, 2.2 rebounds and 0.8 blocks in 11.5 minutes per game.

The 21-year-old is the 18th player on the Lakers' roster -- three more than the regular-season maximum. Teams can carry up to 20 players on their roster heading into training camp, which begins at the end of September.

Upshaw averaged 10.9 points, 8.2 rebounds and 4.5 blocks in 19 games with the University of Washington last season before being dismissed for a violation of team rules. His 85 blocks at the time of his departure led the nation and set a single-season school record.

Upshaw transferred to Washington after being dismissed from Fresno State after his freshman season for a violation of team rules.

The Fresno native had the longest wingspan at this year's pre-draft combine, measuring 7-foot-5 1/2. He also had the highest standing reach at 9-foot-5.

Upshaw makes for a low-risk, high-reward addition to a Lakers frontcourt that already includes centers Roy Hibbert, Robert Sacre and Tarik Black.

Sweet. Lakers need more bigs. Long armed fly swatting defensive minded bigs.
This team will be like our Rams and be a lot more fun to watch in 2015. I hope they have another thing in common in 2016,,, the words Los Angeles in front of their team name.

Well after a couple of games, they have a better team than last year. Champs, ah but they could sniff the playoffs.
