How easy (or not) is that to do?

I remember how many times the Braves looked like the best team only to fade in the playoffs during the 90's. They eventually broke through and won one. Keep getting there and sooner or later it'll happen.

Bad comparison. The "Team of the 90's" won 1 World Series in that decade. 5 World Series appearances, 1 win. The Yankees went 3 for 3 and beat the Braves twice!! How are they not the "Team of the 90's"?

If the Dodgers really compared to the Braves of the 90's, they'd have 3 more WS disappointments to come. They've been to the postseason five straight seasons with just 1 WS appearance. They gotta up their game there to equal the 90's Braves.

Yeah, they've been a regular playoff participant. And a disappointment. Seems like Kershaw can be dominant one game and pick the wrong time to fall flat the next game. Jansen gave up probably the biggest HR of the series.

Baseball is different than other sports. That is why they need so many regular season games to determine the best teams. At any given time the worst team can take two out three or even sweep against the best team.

The Dodgers have been steadily climbing, getting just a little farther each year. They just pick the wrong time to have that any given time. Maybe this is the season they finally break through?

I thought last year was the best Dodger team I've seen in a long time. But when you're supposed to be that good anything less than a title is a disappointment. I just hope they learned something from that. It won't be easy to get back. Heck, it took till the 3rd game just to score their first run this season.

Is age 30 the wall for a closer like it is for a RB in football? Jansen looks terrible and has lost 2+ MPH off his fastball. He's pitching with no confidence and has fear in his eyes. Blows yet another save tonight against the Padres and the lowly Hundley.

IMO, Roberts continues to over-manage. Pulling Kemp way too often.

Losing the world series is tough. Some teams come back to try again (Texas, Kansas City, Atlanta) but most don't. It's tough getting there in the first place, even tougher to get back there after a loss. The Dodgers have their share of injuries but so do a lot of teams. Truth is, even with good health it's a tough job getting back. Janzen is still a good closer. Last 11 appearances 2.53 ERA, 5 saves, 1 blown save. The 1.41 Whip is scary. But he's still a quality closer.

Think some of the Dodgers are suffering from "Fat Contract" hangovers. In regards to Roberts, he made a lot of great moves last year. This year he thinks his moves will have more affect than they actually do.

I know its early but they have to be careful not to dig too deep a hole that they can't back from. You can't expect another 50 game run like they had last season when everything went right during that period.

They have plenty of time to get back in it. They didn't move into first place until late May last season. That won't happen this year. They're too far behind right now.

The one thing that is really affecting them is the injuries. At some point it can be too much to overcome. We'll see how things work out in the next month or so. If they're still struggling and playing multiple games under .500 those injuries might be taking its toll. Plus, their bullpen which was lights out last season is struggling. Cingrani was struggling and now went on the DL. Jansen seems to have lost velocity.

Their starters aren't exactly lights out either. Kershaw has not looked like the usual dominant guy so far. Wood has lost velocity too.

To add to all that the offense has been struggling a lot so far. We'll just have to hope its one of those things where they start slow and will pick it up soon. Otherwise we could be seeing one of those under achieving seasons. Some teams need to be slapped around to come out of it.

hopefully my buccos, who are off to a very surprising start given their roster and who they let go, will help the dodgers' cause this week by sweeping the giants in pittsburgh! love me some mccutchen, always will, such a class act, and hope he does well in sf, just not against his old team!

well the bucs did their part yesterday, hopefully they can follow it up today... but the dodgers dropping two in a row to.... wait for it... wait for it.... the, then, 10-27 reds? in l.a. no less? oh my.

speaking of the bucs vs sf last night, wonderful organization/fan tribute to mccutchen, very moving, game stopped when he walked out for his first plate appearance, long standing ovation, tons of fans sporting cutch jerseys and "we love cutch" signs/posters, just great stuff... and when he was called out on a 3-2 pitch in his first at bat, the stadium booed the ump, ha ha...

I heard an interesting stat on MLB radio.

Arizona has won 10 of 14 series this year. Yet they are only 7 games over .500.

While the Yankees have won 9 of 13 series and they are 16 games over .500.
Boston has won 10 of 14 series this year. They are 15 games over .500.

Wild isn't it?
