Some are holding out hope on a surprise Harper deal. I wonder if Hank would approve that though. They have Judge coming up for a contract in a few years, and I'm not sure what arbitration will be like with him. I guess a Stanton trade would be possible, but all three big contracts in the same outfield?

LaMahieu is puzzling to say the least. The guaranteed Tulowizki a starting position. I'd bet hell get injured eventually but what do they do in the meantime? Maybe they plan on getting Miguel Andujar some first base and outfield time. They are going to have a revolving door at DH ie Sanchez, Andujar, Stanton, Judge, and possibly LaMahieu and Voit.


On another note, I'm not impressed with Boone. I wasn't as a player and am even less so as a manager. I don't understand why they were so set on him from the start.

Problem with Harper is that there is no position open. Only way it happens is if Stanton got traded to the Dodgers.

I think Boone is what Cashman and crew want, a yes man. I don't think he really has much say in the day to day stuff. Girardi had too much control I think (In their mind, not my opinion)

I'm in agreement with both of you guys regarding Boone. Not impressed with him at all. He is just a figurehead. Cash and his guys are basically running the show based on analytics and Boone is there to follow what the math says in given situations. I am OK with it as long as it produces results.

Regarding Tulo: It would be weird if he was promised a starting spot. My personal opinion is he doesn't even make it through spring training. He should not be factored into any decision making. Low risk average reward kind of signing for a bargain price. Shouldn't be a factor.

The DJ signing is because he will be paid big money.

I really wanted this to happen. Now our BP is set. Not only set. It's crazy good which it'll need to be seeing our starting rotation.

Maybe we trade for a starter if we sign Machado but it seems unlikely now. I think we might be nearing the end of our roster building.

It's really seeming like collusion. Supposedly the Phillies dropped out on Machado and the White Sox are the only team bidding on him. Since Harper wasn't getting any attention except from Washington the Phillies are going after him instead.

The last two years of free agency sure make it appear that owners are trying to get the contracts of top stars under control. The six year 300 million dollar contracts are getting resistance, where before the teams were still competing for them. I didn't expect it for two 26 year old players. There best years are likely still to come, and most contracts include opt outs. So there is no guarantee that a club is on the hook for it all, especially if the player is still producing. He's more likely to opt out of he thinks he can land another six year deal.

Mlb trade rumors has linked reports that suggest the A's, Reds, and Padres have backed off on the Sonny Grey talks, but San Francisco has jumped in and that the Yankees are close to a deal.

San Francisco doesn't have a great farm system, so maybe they'd deal a fourth or fifth starter type.
