Anyone else question that move?

I was a bit surprised, and understand why some are questioning the move, but I understand why he chose to take the points/tie. Whatever choice he made would potentially result in second guessing.

I was shocked. It seemed completely out of character especially after going for the touchdown against Dallas with seven minutes to play when a field goal would have made it a two possession game.

Isn't there a huge difference between the two situations? In one (vDallas) if it failed, he'd still have a lead that couldn't be overtaken in one possession. In the other if it failed, he'd still be trailing with 4 minutes left in the game. I think it was a "wise" decision.
One pundit leading up to the game suggested the coach which best kept his ego in check would win the game. McVay was certainly keeping his ego in check there. Payton was not when he was passing on first down with 2+ minutes left in the game.

I thought he should have gone for it.
Been so aggressive all game, seemed like they cut the Saints a break there.
Worse case scenario, Saints have the ball on the 1 foot line?
Would have been fine with that too

Yeah, that’s how I see it.
Good chance we make it, but even if we don’t, Saints are on 1 foot line. Good chance we get the ball right back with good chance to win with no time left.
I’m sure if he went for it there’d be homers saying it was the right move. I’d rather be objective. I think it was the wrong move. When asked McVay said he just went with his gut. Maybe with more experience his gut will tell him to go for it in the same situation.

Totally agree with this.
I think of it this way - If I’m a Saints fan, I am relieved that the Rams kick the field-goal and we are tied and not behind.
What I find interesting is that when he went for it against Dallas, his justification was that we embrace those situations and don’t fear failure. But then he did the complete opposite this time. Obviously for McVay it’s more of just a “gut” thing.

I'm in the other camp. Glad he kicked the FG to even the score. If he went for it and made it I would have been fine too. But the worst that could have happened there was the Saints have the ball on their 1 yard line WITH THE LEAD. Nothing says we would have stopped them and got the ball back quickly....SEE: the long pass to Ginn Joyner misplayed or the pass that caused the controversial non call.....which probably gets called 9 times out of 10

Very questionable call IMO. If we had lost the game, would've been some Martz/Carolina comparisons going on.
http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap300000 ... super-bowlAs McVay, later citing the "flow of the game," mostly rode with Anderson (16 carries, 44 yards) over Gurley (four carries, 10 yards), Goff (25 of 40, 297 yards) made key passes when he needed them most. He also used his legs at a key juncture: Trailing 20-17 with 6:49 to go, Goff rolled to his left and lunged for the end zone, but he was stopped 2 yards short. An Anderson run got L.A. to within less than a yard of a go-ahead score, but McVay -- in a move that belied his aggressive nature -- elected to send Zuerlein on for the easy, game-tying field goal.
"Usually, my gut tells me what to do in those situations," McVay said. "I trusted my gut -- something told me to kick it, and I felt, Let's get it to a tie game, our defense is playing well -- and it worked out. What happens is, players make you right."

Can't say I agreed or disagreed. But I was a little surprised he went for the FG considering what he did the week before. I thought for sure he would go for it. I'm just glad it worked out.
