Well me.

Fred's been running these bumpers lately where he basically slow jams a difficult decision he's facing: "How do you say goodbye when you don't want to?"

So a lot of his fans and twitter peeps are upset. They think he's leaving, or at least afraid he is.

I figure (based on TSFH's thread: viewtopic.php?f=3&t=753&hilit=drive+time ) that this is about Fred changing time slot and doing the show from Universal Studios.

So i (we) tweeted:

Being a reply, i didn't really even notice it was going to Fred but he read it on air and went off on us a little. You can hear it here:

http://thebeast980.com/audio/the-fred-roggin-show/
(Wednesday October 14th, 3rd hour, end of show)

Mainly he said it wasn't a cheap publicity stunt, that he didn't to do stuff like that and he would prove it after the break.

So he came back alluded to a bunch of stuff, didn't really say anything and then closed with a big cliff hanger.

The whole thing is cheesy schlock but it's talk radio after all and a certain amount of this comes with the territory.

Still, personally, i feel like he's coming a little too close to bringing his integrity into question. And that makes me nervous. A lot of us depend on Fred's integrity as a reporter when it comes to Inglewood and Carson.

A stunt like this one just isn't sitting very well with me...

What was the scoop he was going to give the majority of at the edge of the cliff?

Sounded like 'publicity stunt' is what got his goat. If I were a journalist, I can see that someone challenging my credibility might peeve me too, so I think if that was a mistake, clearing it up would be the best course of action.

Just because he reacted naturally and was dangeling carrots at the end of his show doesn't mean his takes are that much less credible IMO.

Fred's entire life is a freakin publicity stunt. OMFG, the guy does Sports Talk Radio in Los Angeles. I wouldn't worry about his response. Just noise for audience sake.

so, what is it.. what did he say that was NOT a publicity stunt. My audio clip cut out just as he said he would tell us.

Hey i'm just glad RFU got mentioned on the air: All publicity is good publicity.

But seriously, he's not agonizing over any decision. He knows what he's doing and now he's just drawing it out for all it's worth. He'll tell you they're just having a little fun with it and they didn't mean to freak out any of his listeners and fans. The bumpers are funny after all. And the cliff hanger at the end of today's show was absurdly stupid in a Mary Hartman Mary Hartman kind of way.

Doesn't matter to me but i don't like it when Fred starts drifting into Dan Sileo territory.

I don't want to have to wonder what else might be a stunt...

It sounds like the difficult decision involves either Amy or Adam.

Ultimately, Roggin is a TV sports reporter who's credibility is important. His radio broadcasts are getting more important by minute since each minute is more accessible afterward, so avoiding bad reporting or losing rationale is really important.
Do you really think he is just playing to what is probably the largest NFL fan base known in LA for temporary increased ratings?
He always seemed like a tool to me, but his career has made some noise, and even on a late night national level. I believe he is rooted in reality, but attempts moderate shock jock in his delivery. You can hear it in his instructive approach.
And I'm with you, i heard the sites named mentioned.

No i don't think so.

Really, i intended my tweet to tell his fans not to sweat it. Fred's not leaving. He was just messing with them for a little show-biz entertainment value before announcing whatever change is coming. But i guess there's no way to say that without it being a knock on Fred.

Whether he meant to or not, he manipulated his audience to his own advantage. He pulled their strings, so to speak, almost like a puppet master.

And for someone who's so good at calling BS on guys like Mark Fabiani, i don't think that's a line Fred should be getting anywhere near...
