Top 10 Offense?

Sure we're dead last in yards per game, 27th in points scored by our offense, 25th in TD's per game but then i remembered, we run, by far, the fewest plays in the NFL per game. We run 50.2 per game. The next worst team, Detroit runs 59.5. Houston runs the most at 77.2

And lo and behold, we're 9th best in the NFL (tied with a bunch of teams) at 5.7 yards per play. Green Bay is 8th with 5.9 yards per play.

And then i thought, is the limited amount of plays skewing our defensive numbers? Are we playing shorter games with less plays than everyone else?

Well no, we defend the 7th most plays per game and yet we give up 5.2 yards per play which is good for 8th best (tied with 2 other teams).

So there you have it, going by yards per play we're top 10 on offense and defense. Our offense runs almost 10 less plays per game than the next worst team and our defense defends more plays than most...

What is the strategic benefit of running so few Offensive plays? Is there one? Or is this not necessarily the intent?

The Rams better try and runs as many as they can to keep Rogers off the field.

I think Fisher's idea is to shorten the game and limit the other team's opportunities. But it's clearly not working.

While we're running by far the fewest offensive plays per game of any team, our defense is defending the 7th most plays per game.

So something is not right. I imagine 3rd down conversions would come into the conversation...

Not only are we a top 10 offense, we're better than Green Bay (stats are weird):

We left 12 to 16 points on the field and handed their D 6.

I'm pretty sure a few less 3 & outs and a few more actual drives would result in more plays/game.

I remember a thread once that was debating rating a defense by points or yards per game
