Johnny Manziel practices with Browns starters; Josh McCown (concussion) waits

BEREA, Ohio -- Johnny Manziel will take snaps with the Cleveland Browns starters in practice Wednesday as Josh McCown remains in the NFL's concussion protocol.

The earliest that McCown can practice will be Friday, coach Mike Pettine said.

Manziel was also listed on the team's pre-practice injury report with the right elbow issue that sidelined him for the latter part of preseason.

Pettine said the team would "be mindful" of Manziel's right arm during practice.

"We're not going to let it handcuff how we practice," Pettine said.

He added that the team may limit Manziel's throwing in individual drills to make sure he is ready for full-team work.

With McCown also sidelined, the team will give Austin Davis more reps.

"We'll make sure that if he has to go in the game, he'll be prepared," Pettine said.

Goood luck to Davis. Seems like a nice enough kid. Don't see him ever playing late in the post season though.

This is making my prediction that AD will never take another snap in the NFL look bad:

Report: Browns extend Austin Davis’s contract

Posted by Josh Alper on September 30, 2015, 9:03 AM EDT

Quarterback Austin Davis hasn’t appeared in a game since signing with the Browns, but that reportedly isn’t stopping the team from making sure he remains around for a while.

Field Yates of ESPN.com reports that Davis has signed a two-year contract extension less than a month after initially signing with the Browns as a free agent. Per Yates, it has a total value of $4.173 million with a $500,000 signing bonus and $600,000 in total guarantees.

Davis made eight starts for the Rams last season and threw for 2,001 yards and 12 touchdowns while completing 63.4 percent of his passes. The Rams cut him loose just before the start of the regular season and the Browns snapped him up a short time later.

At the time, it seemed Davis was in town to serve as insurance while Johnny Manziel dealt with elbow trouble. Davis stuck around after Manziel was healthy enough to return, however, and now it looks like he’ll be in Cleveland for a long while.

A buddy of mine in Cleveland tells me the team is behind Manziel 100% and that Pettine has been holding back.
I dont know why I'm pulling for this kid, but I am. Hope its true that Johnny Football makes it work.
And in return makes Motes correct...

I agree that it's curious you'd back this QB when you've historically been so critical of others.

Like who?
I was a huge supporter of Bradford for instance until he proved to me he couldnt cut it
I like Foles but eventually he's going to have to play more like game 1 and less like game 3

I can't explain why, but the Austin Davis signing made me wonder whatever happened to TJ Rubley. Well, if the story is not 110% BS, he's playing flag football with scrubs:

A Former, Disgraced NFL Backup To John Elway And Brett Favre Plays In My Crappy Flag Football League
http://totalfratmove.com/a-former-disgr ... ll-league/

"The flag football league that my office participates in is littered with former high school and college talent. The league is pretty competitive, which usually means some asshole will pull out all the stops to bring home a championship and relive his wildly mediocre glory days — myself included. . . ."

"After the game, we walked over to his sideline to congratulate him with an ice cold one. “We heard you played for the Packers,” a work buddy of mine said. “Yeah…unfortunately” was the old man’s answer. We just laughed it off. Maybe he hated Wisconsin. We wouldn’t blame him for that. We asked him for his name, and he grudgingly answered: T.J. Rubley. I had never heard of him, but judging by his age, I knew he probably played with Brett Favre. . . ."
