Feel excited because we have a coach with a bright mind who has a plan and is working towards implementing that. We have the best damned DC in football don't worry about the defense! And what strength is weakened? Our D? We traded a guy who we had starting that should be a rotational piece and nothing more. We cut a DE who was a rotational piece because he failed a physical. We cut a Center who we all agreed wasn't worthy of starting. We cut a TE who's nickname was Handbricks. We signed a LT who's a multi time pro bowl and widely regarded by Bengals fans as the leader of their locker room and the best guy ever to wear their uniform. We signed a good WR who put up decent numbers as a number 2 WR in one of the heaviest run offenses in the NFL to an incentive laden deal. If he actually earns all of that contract we'll be happy to pay him the money. But the biggest thing about that WR is that our Offensive minded guru of a head coach thinks he's good. I'll take McVay's opinion of Wood's over any pundit whether he be a professional journalist or the arm chair message board variety.
TLDR we've only just begun the off season. Panicking now is beyond pointless. But I know that won't stop people from doing it and telling us how much smarter they are than McVay and Phillips.
I think Jack created this thread because:
a) he is worried
and
b) he was curious to know if anybody else shared his view
and
c) to start a discussion
The most important line in your post (which was an excellent post btw) is "we're less than 48 hours into free agency". I do this every year. I have NFL Network on, I go to ESPN for a couple of minutes and back to NFLN. I click on Ramsfansunited, then ROD, then LASportsFans, then the Herd, then RRF, then I go back and do it all over again. Endlessly. On day two, I do it all over again. On day three, again. Every day I finally turn off the PC and TV, pick up my kindle and start reading. Currently, it's "Hollywood's Team", a book about the Rams in the 1950's.
Point is, our wondering, hand wringing, frustration, elation and any other feeling we may develop isn't going to make them move any faster. Go out to lunch. Take the kids to the park. Paint the workshed. Any new information will be there when you check in again.
