Rams to add veteran LT Andrew Whitworth, WR Robert Woods

LOS ANGELES -- The Rams are bringing in a new left tackle, agreeing to terms with veteran Andrew Whitworth, his representation, SportsTrust Advisors, posted on its Twitter account.

Whitworth, 35, is a three-time Pro Bowler who had spent the previous 11 years with the Cincinnati Bengals. He gets a three-year, $36 million contract that will guarantee him $15 million, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

The Rams also will add wide receiver Robert Woods, who intends to sign a five-year, $39 million deal, including $15 million guaranteed, sources told Schefter.

The Whitworth signing means Greg Robinson, the No. 2 overall pick in 2014, will no longer protect the blind side of quarterback Jared Goff, who was drafted first overall last year.

Robinson has struggled mightily at left tackle throughout his first three years, and the Rams might experiment with a move to guard as he heads into what could be the final season of his rookie contract.

Whitworth is the oldest left tackle in the league but is still considered one of the best pass-blockers in the NFL, going to the Pro Bowl as an alternate in 2016.

He also has played guard -- even moving there for one game in 2016 so the Bengals could see if 2015 first-round draft pick Cedric Ogbuehi could play left tackle.

Whitworth indicated after the season that he'd like to be with a team that can contend for the Super Bowl. Whitworth hasn't said how long he plans on playing, but this contract could potentially be the last of his career.

Woods, 24, has served as the Bills' No. 2 wide receiver since Buffalo selected him in the second round of the 2013 draft.

In 13 games last season, Woods caught 51 passes for 613 yards and one touchdown. He missed one game in October with a foot injury and two games in November because of a knee injury.

Woods' best season was 2014, when he started 15 games and caught a career-high 65 passes for 699 yards and five touchdowns. His numbers dipped in 2015 while he battled a season-long groin injury and the Bills' offense turned to a run-heavy approach under then-offensive coordinator Greg Roman.

Woods remains USC's career leader in receptions, catching 252 passes from 2010-12.
