KTLA channel 5 has been carrying the Raider games in LA for a long time.

The Chargers also have 2 Monday night games and one Sunday night game.

So about 85% of the Chargers games this season will be shown in LA. Maybe Spanos is right about claiming LA.

The San Diego Chargers of Los Angeles.

Wow.

Thinking out loud here..

Maybe the NFL wants to see if there's is Chargers following here by looking at this years TV ratings? Before making a decision on relocation? Or maybe trying to build a Chargers fan base in LA for next year?

Well, I'm sure there's a certain judge who would say that San Diego is adjacent to Los Angeles . . . .

Well, my serious response would be that the relocation talk has caused a slight buzz for the Chargers such that local KCBS anticipates better than previous ratings in the LA market. Nothing more than that. The marketing people probably forecast a Chargers relocation, and more buzz for the Chargers, as more likely than a Raiders relocation.

But unseriously, if I were to put on my tinfoil hat and pick up the crack pipe I'd say CBS knows the Chargers are coming and the Raiders are not. Alternately unseriously, this is the league trying to help Spanos preserve "his" market (just ask him, he'll tell you it's his  ) while they give Stan a one year headstart in Inglewood -- in other words, Spanos has said he wants to enter the LA at the same time as the other team for marketing, etc., but the league wants to move Stan first and wants to give Spanos 1 more year to work it out in SD -- by getting KCBS to carry all these games (this year and next year), the league is trying to keep the Chargers prominent and relevant in the LA market (and pump up their prominence) to get Spanos to accept the 1 year delay and try to minimize any marketing prejudice caused by a one year delay.

/hat and pipe removed.

Edit: Fine, I was typing before seeing that earlier response there from BRT

They are showing Charger games because they may be eventually be coming to Inglewood. Stan doesn't need the Chargers, but the NFL wants space for two teams in case, that's why the City of Champions is designed that way.
The Raiders will never come to LA and they will never go to SD, it's the Rams or Rams/Chargers.
I think the Chargers should stay in San Diego with a refurbished Qaulcomm. They don't need a new stadium, just an upgraded stadium that SD's can be proud of.

My one fear about the Rams returning was on display today as I couldn't watch the Dodgers or the Trojans. It wasn't for an attendance blackout but the fear is still there.

Why couldn't you watch the Dogers or Trojans?

How did this come to pass? Did the Chargers push for it or was it the networks idea? Or NFL's? Early on it was reported that ESK wanted a 2 year start to cherry pick the sponsors and sell the suites first in return for building the place. Games are advertising and it seems that this move works against that request.
LA is considered a secondary market of SD's..

I really think that is all it is. Still flies in ESK's face a bit.

No blackouts. That TWC-Dodgers thing has me frosted.
