So Gurley Can't Catch?

last year gurley ranked near the very bottom in target % per snap played and more than a few believed it was because of his newly repaired knee, that the coaches didn't want to expose him to the type of hits receivers take, open space hits, which i thought was a pretty tough sell.

flash forward to 2016 and gurley again ranks near the very bottom in target % per snap played, 28th among the top 32 rbs... the average target % for the top backs is 9.6%, gurley is at about half of that at 4.9%.

i'm not suggesting that gurley needs to become marhsall faulk 2.0 out of the backfield, or even one of the top targeted backs (for example ware 32%, d.murray 28%, forsett 21%, deangelo 12%, etc.) but c'mon, you're going to throw to him once in the seattle game?

anyway, i think it's just another example of the rams offensive brain trust really not having any idea of what they're doing, just another example of them being in way over their heads when it comes to offensive scheming.

gurley is a playmaker, one of the premier playmakers in the league, and the best the rams can come up with is running him ad nauseum into a stacked box hoping that he'll break one every 10-15 poundings? good grief.

I am hoping that what we are seeing is an offense still in the developing or installment stage. I hope that they are still installing the offense and that it isn't the total strategy. If it is fully installed. We are in for a long year.

He looked damn good on that 1 screen pass he caught last week. Was a little bit of a floater he caught and turned it in to a 19 yard gain.
Of course we didn't see that play again....

He said in the preseason that he really wants to catch passes. I don't watch college ball so I don't know how he did as a pass catcher there? My guess is it's more of an offensive scheme issue. If they can stretch a defense a bit that would be the perfect time to get him in the flat or a quick 5yd dump off in space.

He caught 37 passes for 441 yards and 6 td's as a sophomore in a run 1st offense....

I hold out hope the offensive coordinators aren't as bad as they look. There is a governor on them named Fish.

they, including schott, seem to look like their past experience to me, fish does too for that matter, which adds up to a whole lot of depression.

Almost every team in the league is moving the ball. Any untidiness in the offense should have been ironed out in the preseason. These guys are pros. If the offense blows, it is coaching. There is talent on the offense, but the coaching staff seems overwhelmed by the task.

This is so true.
And how about that upgrade from Cignetti to Boras?? Good grief, talk about trying to put lipstick on a pig

if cig, then boras, doesn't tell you everything you need to know about the level of importance and priority fish places on the offensive side of the ball, well....
