The Rams will hold their first practice both in pads and available for public consumption today (full practice and preseason schedule available here).

Yesterday, the team finally got fully suited up for a special teams session that was closed to the public but offered media availability. Reporters suggested the practice was pretty lively thanks largely to the "Compete" drill that had players going up 1-on-1 where a special teams gunner is trying to get to a target 15 yards away while a blocker is trying to prevent him from getting there. Fun stuff. As for today, we'll have to see what the team is going to work on coming off of some solid red zone work in their last public practice.

Here's where things stand on the major storylines:

Offensive Line

The rotation between Demetrius Rhaney, Tim Barnes and Barrett Jones continues. If the same setup persists, expect Barnes to take the snaps with the first team today.

No changes around that position though with Greg Robinson, Rodger Saffold, Jamon Brown and Rob Havenstein seemingly locked in everywhere else. It's a unit that's under fire dealing with the strength of the team in the Rams' defensive line.

Injuries

We had a big scare with CB E.J. Gaines going down on Sunday. We'll have to see if he's back in full motion today or limited to take it easy. Otherwise, the Rams' last public practice saw DE Chris Long (back), G Cody Wichmann (calf) who is still on the preseason PUP, CB Brandon McGee and SS Mark Barron (knee) held out. Of course, RB Just Todd Gurley (knee) was still only participating in individual work.

Rookies

Clearly, the offensive line duo of Brown and Havenstein are going to take a share of attention as clear starters as will Gurley as he continues his path to return. But with yesterday's ST session wrapped, let's see if any core special teamers follow the Chase Reynolds/Daren Bates/Cory Harkey path to making the team with some solid camp and preseason special teams contributions.

Defense

Is the Maurice Alexander hype train real? And the early returns from the Rams cornerbacks, chiefly Janoris Jenkin, Lamarcus Joyner and Marcus Roberson, sound positive. Trumaine Johnson has thus far stood out largely because of his mouth (part one, part two).
