Mara: 2 teams in LA in 2016

@AlbertBreer: Giants owner John Mara tells @WFAN660 he believes there will be two teams in LA in 2016. Mara is one of 6 members of the NFL's LA committee.

All signs point to SD moving to LA in 2016, either with the Rams or Raiders.

That flys int the face of what Stan allegedly asked for in return for building the place,,, a 2 year head start. Hope Mara is somewhat incorrect. For me I don't care about the NFL in LA unless it includes the Rams.

I don't think Stan is gonna get his 2 year head start. The old guard owners ain't gonna give it to him. I think that's what Mara is saying cryptically. If Stan wants LA, he's gonna have to make nice with Spanos.

Yeah, I think its possible he will have to compromise. If it gets the Rams back to LA, then I'm ok with it.

I'm just not sure how much of anything anyone says right now is gonna turn out to be right and how much is PR. It would make sense that the NFL wants to keep pressure on Oakland and SD to come through with the best stadium deals possible. That's, at least, one reasonable scenario...

San Diego is going to be second fiddle no matter who they chair LA with so perhaps small equalizer will be allowing them to come in at the same time. My guess that behind the scenes Stan and Dean are both already working on it

As long as it's a bad news Monday, here's La Confora on why The Chargers have the advantage (though i certainly disagree and see this as more PR):

Why the Chargers lead the Rams in NFL popularity contest to win LA vote
August 2, 2015 8:23 pm ET

JASON LA CANFORA
CBS Sports NFL Insider

Of all the offseason moves the Chargers made, the decision to bring in former 49ers exec Carmen Policy to the fold may have been the biggest. Policy is a natural born charmer, and having him help politic for the team's Inglewood stadium project has gone over well with influential owners, sources said.

"It's like everybody who matters loves Carmen," one high-ranking NFL told me. Chargers owner Dean Spanos has been a loyal, league-first guy for a long, long time, and if he calls around and starts calling in his favors, his LA plan might be hard to beat.

Keep in mind, eventually the owners have to vote on this and get behind one of these options, and Spanos has a lot more cachet than St. Louis owner Stan Kroenke.

"There is a popularity contest aspect to this process, at least to some degree," the official said.

Policy has only bolstered Spanos' candidacy it would seem.

Speaking of the Los Angeles situation, I wouldn't be bracing for any sort of hard news coming out of the owner's meeting in Chicago Aug. 11. It's limited to one representative per team and I'm sure the league will want to play it close to the vest, but soon enough the powers that be are going to have to nudge this process in one direction or the other, and get behind either the Inglewood or Carson project (my money is still on Carson. That process will continue to evolve at this meeting and perhaps come to fruition at the annual fall meeting in October.

"I think that the time frame we're working from is somewhere around year's end, give or take," influential Steelers owner Art Rooney, who sits on the LA committee, told me. "We need to make a decision on this, and I think there's a good chance we'll have a team playing there next year, at least one. But there's work to be done. I don't think we'll be ready to make any decisions in August, but we have to be setting things up so a decision can be made by the end of the year or so."

Rooney says one team may be two. The shredders are a definite two teams so that sounds contradictory to Mara's comments.
I agree Elvis, this sounds like a fluff piece. And the good old boy the wrong key again plus pumping up Carmen Policy the cheater with the 49ers who was fined a million dollars. Yeah he's Mr slick alright. I think the article reeks of Fabiani.

Are there 2 temporary stadium sites? I thought that was an issue

That's why IMO the agreement will be Rams move to LA in 2016 at the Coliseum (50th year) and the Chargers join them in Inglewood in 2018. Spanos will agree because he's not putting up jack and that will be what finalizes the deal, he gives Stan his two years for the right to move into the venue of the century!
