Well, he's got a cool name. If only we'd have drafted Tom Savage too. ;)

Guy has serious character issues and his tape is mediocre. Coach Boudreau might turn him into something worthwhile but he's got his work cut out for him.

I was quite excited for the Rams to get Boudreau but after a few years now, I don't really think there's much reason to think any o-lineman is going to be developed by this staff.

Hopefully I'm just overlooking/forgetting some examples but Boudreau and company haven't exactly been turning coal into diamonds.

That coal he's been working with was more like rocks. Its hard to soar like an eagle if you're working with turkeys. Maybe this new bunch is a little more talented. Or at least healthier.

Keep in mind I'm not calling any of these guys HoFers but he improved Chris Williams and Shelly Smith enough to get them big paydays. And Joe Barksdale was cut by the lowly Raiders and was a solid starter for us for years. Most of our OLine problems come from injuries and 30+ year old free agents that weren't worth the money. Add to that the fact that Fisher really hadn't put any draft capital into the OLine prior to this year. He hasn't worked miracles with the line but he's done well considering what he had to work with.

Seems they plan on redshirting him for a year.

Rams General Manager Les Snead said Battle would use the upcoming year to grow as a person on and off the playing field.

“We felt it was an opportunity to get an earlier round value for a later round price,” Snead said. “He’s going to practice what would’ve been his final year of college eligibility with us, go through our offseason program, and then start his rookie season a year from now. This will allow us to bring him along gradually both on and off the field. Now it’s up to Isaiah and us to go work to reach his potential as a person and player.”

Isn't that the whole point though? I thought Boudreau was supposed to be able to "develop" guys without having to spend high draft picks on them

We've spent what three draft picks prior to this year on OLine? Robinson, Jones and Watkins are the only three I can think of. No wait there was the 7th rounder last year that never made it out of camp. Again they haven't put any effort until this year into getting us young linemen especially when you consider how bad it was when he became coach.
