Each week someone can select a former Rams player for us to discuss. Let's kick it off with Hacksaw.Jack (Hacksaw) Reynolds Middle Linebacker HT: 6-1 WT: 227 College: Tennessee With the Rams 1970 - 1980 Played 13 postseasons games Honors: Pro Bowl Seasons 2All NFC Seasons 4First Draft Pick in 1970Tackles Stats and TD: 897 career combined tackles (Second in the Rams History)6 seasons leading the team in tackles top 1 tied with David "Deacon" Jones 1 career TD in 1979 (no playoffs)Most combined tackles by a linebacker in the Rams History 1979 Rams at Denver on Sept. 6 Thursday on Prime Time:The Rams won their first game of the season, when middle linebacker Jack Reynolds crawled into the the end zone on a QB Craig Morton fumble to beat Denver 13 - 9.LISTENhttp://members.tripod.com/~mydamrams/MIDIS/21.wavThis was his first and only TD of Reynolds career with the Rams on Prime Time, national television. This is the same season the Rams made their first Super Bowl appearance in 1980. New HC. New L.A. Stadium. Superstar Re: Alumni Saturdays POST #4 One of the leaders of the team in the '70s and early 80s. One of my favorite players of all time. In the late 70s, the RAMS had a run up a pretty impressive streak of crushing the niners on a yearly basis. Reynolds, in a interview, had said that he and his fellow defensive players could see the niners offense never wanted to take the field against their unit. Their body language and lack of talking made it very clear the niner offense was intimated by the RAMS D.The teams of the 70s are the yardstick I measure every RAMS team by. Yeah, they never won a Super Bowl and only went to one at the end of the decade, but those teams were beasts. Well-run and knew the importance of pummeling the niners. Our current group is an embarrassment when measured against those teams. Our current D and STs don't match the 70s teams, but they are, at least, respectable. Our offense, HC and OC are not even in the same zip code as those long ago teams. Old race cars and the men and women who piloted these beasts are covered in Vintage Motorsport magazine. The eras covered are about 1900 to the year 2010 or so. Excellent choice for the first alum Stranger. Reynolds was an All-SEC and All-American linebacker who went on to become a decade-and-a-half NFL vet with two Super Bowl rings. But what's the deal with his nickname? After the undefeated Vols suffered a crushing loss to Ole Miss, a brokenhearted Reynolds commenced to sawing his Chevy truck (some say it was a Porsche) in half with, yes, a hacksaw. It took two days. "I cut it clean through the driveshaft," he still says, proudly. After sleeping on it, Reynolds grabbed some teammates and took them to see his handiwork, only to find that the vehicle's remains had been hauled away, leaving only the worn-out saw and the 13 broken blades it took to complete the task. Looking back, that was actually fortuitous, because Jack "Half a Pickup" Reynolds doesn't sound nearly as cool as Jack "Hacksaw" Reynolds. To bad there aren't more videos / commercials of Jack while he was playing for the Rams. The worst part, he left us for the fartwhiners. AAUGH. GO RAMS !!! GO DODGERS !!!
