Didn't want to derail the Hackenberg thread but I have the same type of questions about Hogan. The guy's been running a pro-style offense with a strong running game and has the size and good enough arm strength.

Not a sexy pick by any means but there really isn't a blue-chipper available to the Rams in this draft. Especially not where they're picking. So, if they're potentially looking at the 3rd or 4th QB taken, why not use that semi-early first round pick on the BPA and then get a guy like Hogan later where he would be a value?

I'd much rather do things that way than overspend on a QB in the first round that's also going to be a project at the next level. Hogan seems right for what the Rams want to do on offense and he could be had in the 2nd or 3rd or whatever and actually make the pick a value.

He was impressive in the Rose bowl. But, it was against Iowa.

I'm not in love with him. He's got a wonky windup and release but all the QB's this year have some drawback or other.

Since drafting a QB is generally a crapshoot I'd much rather find a diamond in the rough than spend draft capital on a guy who isn't much more of a prospect. With Hogan, he fits what I think Fisher wants to do. Also, if Fisher is actually on his last year, the team can move on from Hogan and let the next coach take his own guy.

I don't really see a rookie coming in and leading the Rams anyway but I'd much rather they take a guy who could be a value than to draft a project too high just because they "have" to draft a QB this year.

The Rams have the location, money and building blocks that should be the cornerstone of FA. I agree that they shouldn't risk a high draft pick on a developmental QB when they could draft a plug and play starter at 15. Later in the draft if the guy isn't ready to play day one of the season. Another PAC 12 QB to develop, could be worse.

Why draft another Sean Mannion?
If the Rams take a QB in rd 1 or 2, I get it.
But I cant see drafting a QB in the mid/late rounds

I'm not a fan of a long release but there's more to it than just the physical aspect. I feel like Mannion's slow all the way around. Slow feet, slow decisions, slow release, etc. If Hogan is the same in all those areas, then yeah, pass him up. But, if he's just got a slow release and everything else is NFL caliber, I could see using a 3-5 on him.

He and Hackenberg were just painful to watch throwing the ball today.

I'm not a mannion fan, but post combine he is a significantly higher pro prospect than Hogan.
In fact, I don't see hogan as draftable. His release is terrible, and has no arm strength.
Low right elbow, ball comes out like he's 5-10 and he had to throw his whole body in to his throws to get it downfield. He won't have that Stanford OLine in front of him in the NFL where he can wind up, step in to it and let it rip.
I love kids like Hogan and I root like heck for them to succeed. He doesn't have the athletic ability and clearly has gotten to where he is on incredibly hard work.
