Sammy B Makes the Podium of Worst Rams Draft Picks

Sam Bradford failed to build on a promising rookie campaign, landing him at #3 on our list.

This is perhaps the most controversial placement on this list. On one hand, you have a #1 overall pick that went on to win Offensive Rookie of the Year. On the other hand, you have an obviously talented QB who failed to do much after his inaugural season.

Before we get into the nitty gritty, let's recap:

#10 Joe Klopfenstein
#9 Alex Barron
#8 Eric Crouch
#7 Adam Carriker
#6 Isaiah Pead
#5 Brian Quick
#4 Tye Hill

3k had that rookie season ranked as one of the 10 best moments in St. Louis Rams history. I don't disagree with his assessment of future hope. It's his failure to deliver on that hope that lands him so high on this list. As is common on the countdown, Sammy B would be higher on many other franchises' list, but the Rams dismal draft record acutually pushes him DOWN to #3

Every Rams fan wishes that Bradford's development would have continued after his rookie year. But between a sophomore slump and repeated injuries, he could never recapture that rookie magic. The exception was the beginning of the 2013 season. Sam infamously had 14 TDs and 4 INTs through 7 games before suffering his first ACL injury.

He'd never play a regular season game for the Rams again. It was a fitting end to a frustrating era for Rams fans. Sam had enormous potential, but failed to deliver the Rams to a winning record much less the promise land.

Best St. Louis Rams Draft Picks #3: Action Jackson Continues Rams RB Tradition

One of Sean's favorite Rams of all time comes in at #3.

Finally! A break from the DL dominance!

#10 Todd Gurley
#9 James Laurinaitis
#8 Chris Long
#7 Leonard Little
#6 Robert Quinn
#5 Aaron Donald
#4 Kevin Carter

You'd be hard pressed to find a Rams fan who doesn't hold Steven Jackson among the best Rams of the St. Louis era. You'd also be hard pressed to find someone who feels bad the Rams wasted such a tremendous career.

Action Jackson carried the Rams for the majority of his career - only to be repeatedly let down by his surrounding cast. He holds record for the most rushing yards in team history. When your franchise has had legendary RBs like Eric Dickerson and Marshall Faulk, that's nothing to shake a stick at.

On top of being a dominant rusher on otherwise (mostly) abysmal teams, he was a tremendous emotional leader. He frequently had moments where he emotionally lifted the Rams - just look at Chris Long's reaction here That's the emotional leader of that Rams defense getting crunk off of SJ39. That's the spirit of teamwork you're seeing right there.

Jackson defined an era in St. Louis. He almost made it to #2 on the list, but a lack of postseason credentials hurt his case to climb higher on the list

So who's #2 and #1 on each list?

Obviously Jason Smith is #1, possibly of all time, when it comes to worst picks, but the other 3?

Good point, he's #2, or maybe #1.

And for the best two, Pace and Holt?

It's not like he washed out of the league. The Rams CHOSE to trade him away. That's isn't Bradford's fault. I don't know, maybe I'm inferring wrong but I wouldn't put Bradford in the Lawrence Phillips or Trung Canidate or Ryan Leaf or JeMarcus Russel conversation which is what this seems to be implying.

There was no choice in how much he was paid so it's not like it was his fault the Rams were so bad as to get that draft pick either. And it isn't like Bradford fell off the map after his rookie year. 2010, 2012 and before he got hurt in 2013 were all solid or better all things considered.

And, it's not like the Rams traded away the future to get him in the draft. This isn't an Eli type deal.

Maybe...MAYBE he should be on the list because of the hope connected to where he was picked but I don't rate him as an all-time bust.

Pretty sure this list is just for St. Louis, but yeah, if we're talking L.A., lots to choose from there too, like Donald Evans, Mike Schad, Gaston Green...
