We all hoped these would happen to one degree or another but not sure we expected them to actually get done!

From a performance standpoint it makes perfect sense.

The Rams aren't fooling around. They aren't taking any high priced guys who underperformed and are going young for LA.

Looks like they are gonna keep JJ and Tru.

It's expected, but I'm sad about Long. I was hoping they could somehow restructure his contract.

Glad Cook is gone.

One of my favorite Rams ever and I really hope they bring this class act back at a very reduced rate to end his career in Horns!

The Los Angeles Rams have gotten free agency under way.

The Rams announced Friday they have released defensive end Chris Long, linebacker James Laurinaitis and tight end Jared Cook.

"This is the time of year when all NFL teams are faced with difficult decisions regarding their veteran players," Rams coach Jeff Fisher said in a statement.

"Chris and James are the epitome of what it means to be a pro in this league and it's been an honor to coach them both. They've been the pillars of our defense for many years and not enough can be said of their love for the game and for their teammates. Beyond the field, they took pride in mentoring the younger players and doing their part to make a real difference in the St. Louis community. We will always be grateful for James and Chris' unselfish commitment to the Rams and wish them the best moving forward.

Isn't this a case of clearing salary? Could any of these guys re-sign later with a smaller contract? I'd like to see Long back on an incentive deal as it seems that even still, he makes the defense better when he's on the field and healthy.

We save just a shade under $23 million with these three moves (22.965 I think I saw). I'd fully expect Long to be brought back on a cheap 2 or 3 year deal, that last name and his community work is just to valuable to not have on the team.

Glad about Cook.

Not surprised about C Long.

I am surprised (though not sad) about JL. Who are they going to have play MLB?

Wonder if either CL or JL comes back at reduced pay.
