Rams Worst Trade the last 10 years???????

Marcus Peters?

This may seem like a controversial choice since cornerback Marcus Peters was a two-time first-team All-Pro who some have viewed as an elite cover corner. The reality, though, is that the Rams overpaid for a defensive back who has always been a feast-or-famine player.

Yes, Peters had an impressive statistical start to his career. In his three seasons with the Chiefs, he logged 19 interceptions, three defensive touchdowns and 55 passes defended while being named the 2015 Defensive Rookie of the Year. However, Peters also had a tendency to gamble and was prone to surrendering big plays.

In Peters' first season with the Rams, for example, he recorded eight passes defended and three interceptions. However, he also surrendered 732 receiving yards and six touchdowns while allowing an opposing passer rating of 104.2.

Peters never seemed to fit with L.A.'s defense, and he busted more than he boomed. The Rams opted to trade him after just over a year and 22 games, replacing him with trade acquisition Jalen Ramsey the same day.

For the 22-game rental of Peters (and a sixth-round pick) the Rams traded a 2018 fourth-round pick and a 2019 second-rounder. Los Angeles then dealt him to Baltimore for linebacker Kenny Young and a fifth-round pick.

Funny thing here though. They traded for Marcus Peters and went to the Superbowl. Didn't lose that one because of their defense. Then they traded for Ramsey and he helped them get to the Superbowl. Now many fans want JR back. He was the same gambler as Peters and got beat just as much, though he was better in run support. FWIW, I never liked Peters but I wouldn't say he was their worst trade the last 10 years. Maybe getting rid of Ernest Jones ranks higher.

In a LOL moment, Wentz made the list twice!!!

If we kept Jones bet we would not have gotten Fiske and maybe not Verse. Peters was a knucklehead.

I don't know about worst trade.

I can though offer candidate for their worst FA signings. Both were hasty and ill-considered.

1. Allen Robinson, 2022.
2. Jonah Jackson, 2024.

Jackson was moved to center later to replace Avila, who was moved to center earlier rather than sign former starter Coleman Shelton. In the end they traded Jackson away and re-signed Shelton.

Speaking of Ernest Jones, he had knee surgery during the offseason:

2022 Rams were in a bidding war with Buffalo for Von Miller. When he signed with Buffalo, Rams had a bunch of FA cash available but it was relatively late in the game and they ended up with Bobby Wagner and Allen Robinson.

Neither worked out very well but i bet Buffalo considers the Miller signing to be worse still.

I'm gonna always think we didn't really get to find out about Jackson because of all the injuries early in the season.

But getting Shelton back and making him the starter right out of the gate sure does tell us the Rams were not happy with the position last year, most likely the mental part.

Worst trade? I dunno. If you go by what the Rams gave up in most of them, they were pretty much all bad. If you go by the Rams w/l record since McVay got here, they were pretty much all good.

I will throw in my 2 cents. FA players aside and just trades.

Trading Ramsey for a 3rd and Hunter Long might rank near the top/bottom of the list IMO.

I get that the Rams got out from underneath a potential huge contract. Based on rumors Ramsey might come back and the fact Long was invisible on the Rams tells most of the story.

Not much value for a player still worth a roster upgrade this season.

I was very bummed when we didn't resign Von Miller.....simply because he and AD were both elite and no team had three linemen on either side of their Oline that could block the two of them. They absolutely dominated in our SB run during the playoffs. Both played off of the other.

Yeah Jackson got waylaid by injuries, but then should he have been the center? They had 4 candidates for center total (not all on the roster at the same time) including Shelton before he walked. They were Shelton, Avila, Jackson, and Limmer. Now back to Shelton since Avila needed to be at guard and they had no place for Jackson. Even after the injuries in the off-season they didn't keep Jackson and give him another chance at center. It was straight back to Shelton first chance they got.

I just don't think they thought the Jackson thing through. The whole Jackson thing turned on him being healthy and Avila working out at center, which is 2 things based less on surefire knowledge and more like impulse buying so to speak.

In terms of Shelton now replacing Limmer, it looks to me as if the Rams addressed every visible flaw from the Eagles playoff game. Here are the big flaws in the Eagles game and how they were addressed in the off-season,

* sack in the redzone with 1 minute left and a chance to take the lead and win, said to be a communication issue due to inexperience at center
* signed Shelton

* run defense
* signed Ford, Landman, Dolac, and drafted Paul

* lack of explosive runs
* drafted Hunter in an RB deep draft, and he is kind of a Williams but with open field speed

* passing game dominated by Nacua, and if a good defense accounts for that there weren't other big options
* signed Adams, drafted Ferguson, let Kupp go because you can't count on him to stay healthy
