Joe Burrow?

I was having a beer with my buddy and he's a big Bengal's fan. (We were in the Navy together). He out of the blue asked if I thought the Rams would trade for Joe? This would be like Stafford v 2. He will be 30 years old and he's certainly an elite talent.

The Bengals are back to circling the drain and are having problems paying to keep guys. The Rams two picks would give Bengals 3 first round picks and their choice of any of the rookies and their 5 year contracts. The Rams would get another elite QB who is wasting his career going no where fast. With two second round picks they can get their CB and LT both next year. With Burrow there is no doubt who you are getting. McVay will get another elite vet to coach.

Just another thought as how big having two first round picks is. It gives the Rams all kinds of options regardless of where the picks are in the first round.

So yeah I told my friend the Rams would be foolish not to do it. Look at the guys they got on day three. If they had 3 day two picks OMG they could address whatever position they want.

I'm simply pointing out that having two first round picks in hand gives the Rams all kinds of options even outside the box kind of options. We were laughing (partly from the beers) about how it would turn the NFL upside down again like when they traded for Stafford.

Your buddy was probably reading the draft thread or in the Discord Draft Chat! I also think Cowherd or Eisen said something about it. I don't think any Rams fan would oppose such a trade.

Yep! It’s had a bit of smoke here and there.

As we discussed in Chat - some of us like the idea.

I would, in good faith, be interested to know the arguments against doing this deal if it ever came up!

What is there not to love? Burrow is amazing, he would, in this case, be only 30. Moving from Stafford to Burrow would be a dream scenario.

Yes! This is my first choice over drafting a QB next year. Seems perfect.

Bengals though just secured Burrows favorites for WR I think. I don’t know if the Bengals themselves have considered trading him.

Yeah I wouldn't be surprised if that is where he got it. He talked about Burrows + a second round pick for 2 ones.

You know Joe has to be frustrated with the Bengal's FO and 2026 is a contract year for him. So I'm not surprised people are talking about it. I hadn't heard about it before my buddy. But it would make sense for both teams. The problem is if they target a top 5 picks the 2 first rounders might not be enough if the Atlanta pick isn't high enough. All I can see is that the Rams can't afford these $40M + one year rentals. A new contract with Burrows allows them to spread the money better leaving cap for extensions.

Yeah in someways that makes more sense for the Rams. They would be SB bound right out of the gate with no developmental time needed. It wasn't until I looked Burrows up on Over the Cap that I saw next year as his contract year.

Just adds a whole new level to what the Rams could do. And here I thought the beer made him smarter! LOL

I like the idea as well. Although, remember how hard it was for Carson Palmer to get out of Cincinnati? He had to threaten retirement. Not sure the Bengals are a team that does well for their players like the Rams do for their players.

I saw this idea floated months ago. And then the Bengals signed both Chase and HIggins to extensions, making Burrow a very happy guy. Why is anybody thinking Joe Burrow would still want out? The Bengals clearly want to keep their big 3 together.

And the timing could be better. Doesn't seem like Stafford is ready to walk away just yet. I think maybe we check back in a couple of years and see where both Stafford and Burrow are then.

The Athletic has an article today about the Bengals chaos and drama surrounding Hendrickson, runner up for defensive player of the year last year. Reading through it, Bengals FO seems to be a mess.

—-
Some excerpts:

Bengals’ Trey Hendrickson drama is as avoidable as it is out of control

This was a mess.

An undeniably avoidable mess. On both sides.

The Bengals granted Hendrickson permission to seek a trade a week before free agency. They knew where he stood in the Chase-Higgins pecking order. They knew the money available. They should have known the direction the edge rusher market could go. Teams were understandably interested in adding the runner-up for defensive player of the year. They were going young with new defensive coordinator Al Golden and could sell high on a 30-year-old edge rusher. They could have used the $16 million in free agency to supplement the pass rush, used the extra draft pick to add another young rusher and allowed the collection of top picks to start over. There would be no drama. There would be no OTA media days. There would be a franchise that paid its best players and found a solution to make the balance sheet work in a way that made sense for them.

There is one side of the argument where Taylor and the Bengals were merely messaging Hendrickson to know what was coming down the line in the CBA, so it doesn’t take him by surprise and that they’re still hoping to get a deal done.

Hendrickson didn’t see that view. He saw a shark attack, it seems.

Hendrickson is passionate. He admitted he’s “working on my patience,” but Tuesday it pushed him to wake up and choose chaos. The angry response of a player who feels out of options and frustrated in finding ways to collect what he believes he’s worth.

The Bengals are cheap, but they signed the WR's for Borrow.
Zero chance the Bengals trade Burrow, he is signed through 2029. Rams will need a QB prior to that lol.
