IMO, the Rams cannot afford to let Johnson, Jenkins, or Barron become free agents. These guys are all young solid players entering their prime. Long, Lauranitis, Saffold, and Cookie are scheduled to be overpaid on the downside of their careers. We need that money to resign our younger core and have some chips to attract some outside FA's.
We would need a DE, TE and a stud LB'er. Not to mention a stud QB.

Some available FA's.
Jason Pierre-Paul DE
Von Miller, LB
Alshon Jeffery, WR
Kirk Cousins, QB
Brock Osweiler, QB
Anquan Boldin, WR
Malcom Floyd, WR
Dwayne Allen, TE
Coby Fleener, TE
Vernon Davis. TE
Stefen Wisniewski, C
William Hayes, DE (Rams)
Eugene Sims, DE (Rams) To name a few..

This is a link to the names of all NFL free agents this year.

Here is a link to our current roster and our cap situation. Not including our own FA's.

Currently we are approximately $36M under the cap not incl our FA's.
Another $18M or so if we lose Bailey, Long, Cook, Saffold and JL factoring in their dead money.

Thoughts?

Agree with resigning the above, but I would also like to resign Hayes and Sims. The overpaid crew should be cut or forced to restructure to in order resign our own.

Miller and Jeffrey will probably be franchised so they will not be available.

I would like to kick the tires on TE Dwayne Allen from the above list and like to add WR Marvin Jones from Cincy along with RGIII once he gets cut. From what I hear, this is a Center-rich draft, so drafting a 3rd or 4th Rd. Center to add to our young line. With the three picks in Rounds 1 and 2 we should draft the BPA with an eye to WR, MLB, and DL. I don't think there is a QB worthy of No.15 and signing RGIII (assuming he has matured) and allowing the further development of Mannion with Keenum as a backup should be how to go at QB.

Tough decisions ahead. Thankfully, the Rams can look to their own players on defense to sign. On the Offensive side of the ball I would really like to see Wisniewski signed at center. Need a rock snapping the rock! Jefferies is a dream but Chicago is a funny place. Don't know if Fox is sold on him or White who hasn't hit the field yet. Allen on the cheap (the Ram I like the least "Cook" hits the pavement) would be nice. Some flashes in Indy. What a sad year for FA QB's though. The year the Rams could really make a push with a decent signal caller.

I don't see the Jets letting him get away, but if Fitzpatrick hits the open market they should go hard after him. A decent quarterback with this defense and Gurley could be the difference.

That would be the elusive 10 win season Fisher has been looking for (IMO).

Sad part is he used to be ours. 'Harvard's' game has come a long way. He's now 33 so he's entering his twilight so you can't overpay. He's been know to throw picks too. 2011, 24 TD's - 23 int,, 2014, 14 TD's -12 int . Other years more average. He still does have fire in his belly and can manage a game fairly well.. And as Neil mentioned not a ton of quality choices.

EARTH CITY, Mo. -- The Los Angeles Rams have no shortage of unrestricted free agents this offseason. At this point, they're working to get deals done with key players like cornerbacks Trumaine Johnson and Janoris Jenkins and safeties Mark Barron and Rodney McLeod.

But with free agency set to open in a few weeks, it can be hard to get players to re-sign before they test the market. There's a negotiating window that opens just before the new league year actually starts but the reality is that a lot of talks will heat up at next week's NFL scouting combine.

Earlier this week, Pro Football Focus unveiled its list of the top 75 free agents for 2016. Given how many free agents the Rams have, it's no surprise they had multiple names on the list. In fact, they had five players within the top 45.

Though not a free agent, Long has said he's open to taking a salary cut. IMO, that should be looked into. I'm not sure that cutting JL, as has been mentioned, is a good idea-but it too should be considered. It's imperative that both Jenkins and Johnson be resigned, although that will probably be very difficult.
Maybe a trade of both Long and Laurinaitis, along with one of our second rounders for an additional first?
All just my very humble opinion.

I can't imagine any team trading for JL or CL.

True and their value isn't on the rise. Perhaps a sweetener in a QB trade up deal.
