Cooper Kupp is still a Ram icon and got a solid contract from Seattle but we’ve all seen how these 3 yr contracts can shrink after year one. I still think he was short sighted in not taking a cut if his desire to be a Ram was as great as he claimed. I guess when you’re in the hundreds of Millies getting 7-8 mil a year is just not feeling the love. He could have taken a one year, the Rams still would have signed Adams, Tu Tu would have been replaced in the draft with a speedy WR. Oh well, Kupp got his payday and it’s interesting how it may play out:

2025: Base salary: $4.99M, Signing bonus: $12M, Per game roster bonuses: $510k
2026: Base salary: $12.99M, Per game roster bonuses: $510k
2027: Base salary: $12.49M, Roster bonus: $1M, Per game roster bonuses: $510k
Those are, of course, the cash flows, and fans are more interested in the cap hits, so those are as follows:

2025: $9.35M ($4.99M base salary, $4M signing bonus proration, $360k per game roster bonuses)
2026: $17.5M ($12.99M base salary, $4M signing bonus proration, $510k per game roster bonuses)
2027: $18M ($12.49M base salary, $4M signing bonus proration, $510k per game roster bonuses)

Of note, Kupp has $9M of his $12.99M 2026 base salary set to vest into a full guarantee the Friday after the Super Bowl, as is the usual vesting schedule for Seahawks contracts.

It's now clear to me that this wasn't about money. Based on things McVay has said about it, they had arrived at their decision by the time the season ended. This was a football decision.

For whatever reasons, McVay/Snead decided that Kupp wasn't part of the plan going forward, and so they made a clean break of it. Taking a cut wasn't an option open to Cooper.

It was painful for all sides when it happened, but that's now in the past.

The only cut on the table was being "cut" from the team.

There wasn't a "cut in pay" offered. The Rams weren't willing to having him even under any circumstances.

The Rams have had no conversations with Kupp about restructuring his deal, which is scheduled to have a cap number of $29.8 million in 2025 with a base salary of $12.5 million and $5 million guaranteed.

Damn cold.... talk about not beating around the bush. Clearly the Rams feel like he cant perform remotely like what he use too and want to give more time to Tutu, Whit and probably a draft pick.

It wasn’t. The Rams wanted to move on. Period. No renegotiation. We will all see soon enough if that was the right move. Overall, the WR room will be improved. Possibly greatly improved. No knock on Kupp. Love the guy. But the Rams want to be a powerhouse on O. Need different players to pull that off and to redistribute the players you have into roles that will bring that offense to fruition.

Yes he was popular. Yes when healthy he could be a force to be accounted for.

But the operative word is healthy. We aren't talking a game here and there. He was missing multiple games each year.

The Rams paid him over $76M over 8 years. He probably missed close to 1/3 or more of that time due to injury. He's got zero complaints. Most teams would have cut him long before that. That's a lot to pay for one outstanding season. He could retire for the rest of his life but his ego won't let it go.

Sorry I loved the guy but nothing lasts forever. If he can't accept reality that is on him not the Rams. If he loves the game that much he can coach. Time to move on with life Coop.

I don't think it is so cut and dry with whatever talent Coop has left in him. He is an elite route runner, and the Hawks offered him $15mil per........time will tell.
