Draft strategy what do you think?

The media is going crazy with the Rams trading not only players but picks as well? I don't see them trading out of the first round. A first round QB gives the Rams a extra developmental year, i.e. no pressure to start him as a rookie.

I don't buy this over drafting concept. Either you want and need the guy or not so much. If you want him and need him you take him. There are reasons QBs drop which generally are they are more developmental and need a redshirt year.

The Rams struck gold with Verse in the first round and again by trading up to get Fiske. That tells me that Snead trusts his gut. IMO the three biggest needs of this team is QB, LT and RB. IMO they have a potential starting ILB in Nick Hampton. They can fill the NT need with a proven player in Gaines. Higbee has another year on his contract so I see TE as an early 3rd day pick.

QB and OT seem to offer the best value in the first round due to the 5th year option and the crucial nature of the positions. I think any moving around will be on the second or early third day.

If a team offers a high second round pick and a 4th or high 5th round pick for Stafford and Kupp I can see the Rams taking them. Snead does more with third day picks than just about any other team.

Yeah, this draft will be very interesting indeed.

I'm going to go with QB, WR, LT in no particular order. All depends on Stafford

I'm going to go ahead and predict Jaxson Dart at #26...

Jaxson is a quality prospect. That said IMO he definitely is a year two starter. He seems to understand progressions but his decision making is inconsistent so his throws can be as well. He looks to have technique issues that will need work.

That said, I've seen nothing in what limited film I've seen to question him as an eventual quality starter with good coaching and a scheme fit. But he's been rising on most boards due to the lack of depth at QB in this draft with Jaxson slotting between 3rd best QB and 5th best so he might be gone at 26.

This draft is very hard to determine where QBs might go. It's what is driving the Darnold, and Stafford markets. But even then Stafford is attractive to win now teams like the Vikings and Raiders who have the cap to afford him. Darnold is looked at as a possible long term solution at QB and will come significantly cheaper.

What may drop a lot of QBs is that most teams may be looking for QBs on the second day as a way of hedging their bets. Ward and Sanders will probably go early in the top 10. Beyond that it's a crap shoot. From the way Snead scouts he's got at least one target that he's been following for a couple of years. The way they structured Stafford's contract would seem to suggest that.

Jaxson really is best in an RPO offense. I don't know if McVay will morph in that direction. I think he will incorporate some to increase the threat level but use it sparingly. I think what Sean is looking for is a QB that can be a legit threat in the short red zone (5 yds and closer) or to pickup 3rd and mediums when the play breaks down. I think the offense Sean envisions will be a hybrid of his early score from anywhere and his current ball control scheme.

Jaxson can play that if given the time to improve his ability to read and make decisions off those reads.

Last year I had Maye, Nix and Penix as my top 3 QBs but it was based upon McVay's offense. Just like Nix has surprised a lot of people, Jaxson could also if drafted into the right system. Jaxson would be a pretty good fit in AZ with their current system. Kyler is faster but IMO Jaxson offers the potential to be a better QB overall. It wouldn't surprise me at all if the Cards aren't looking at Jaxson with the 16th pick. I think this will be Murray's last season with the Cards and in the NFL considering his poor work ethic. This is a contract year for him with next year as an option year. I hope I'm wrong because I wouldn't want Jaxson in AZ, I like them as the perpetual doormat.

Unless the Rams have some really good intel, I can’t see them drafting a WB in the first round - even if they trade Stafford. This team will take a huge step back if they do and that is something I am certain they don’t want.

I agree! No wingback and no quarterback either! 8-) :lol2:

The media has received an abundance of clicks on the subject of Stafford and so an abundance of fans have reacted to it with outrageous claims, theories and suppositions.

For a team that settles everything 'in-house' this has really got out of hand. Or has it?

I don't know because I don't know anybody in the Rams front office or scouting department.
