Snead voices what I've been hearing since before the season began. That is why I've always felt they will draft a rookie QB1 this year so they have 5 years of control over his contract. This is the point I keep coming back to it and now it's in print though I've heard it since early last year. It's why despite the surprise and annoyance Matt's stunt was they saw it as the perfect out for them. Now they can dictate the terms of this next year.
It's why I've been saying regardless of what Stafford wants, he probably won't be QB1 this coming season. They control his rights for the year by virtue of that $4M guarantee. So I think it will be Jimmy or Darnold if they think they can rehabilitate his career. I wouldn't be surprised if they sign Darnold to a cap friendly first year to play and learn behind Jimmy G this year who would be the designated starter and who would take over next year. Jim would welcome the one year to showcase himself with a good team around him. That's why I think the Rams will sign him on a two year deal so they will have a trade commodity next season.
This assumes the Vikings don't sign Darnold long term which I think isn't likely and I doubt if he accepts a short one or two year deal. In fact I think MN would be "not so bright" not to grab Stafford now and be immediately competitive in the NFCN. Darnold has already proven he can't be that guy.
