Ive crossed over. The "classic NFL dropback QB" era is over.

Sadly Rams wont have one for a while.

Would Van Brocklin, Unitas, Starr, Bradshaw, Fouts, Marino, Kelly, Brady, Manning, etc have a place in todays game?

Satfford could end being the last of his kind to win a SB

Stafford with 4 cracked ribs was potentially a missed block away from beating the Eagles. He’s still good enough win a Super Bowl as a pocket passer.

Mobility rules. But don't the mobile QBs need to be pocket passers also? Who are the most dynamic mobile QBs in the NFL? And who among them, not named Mahomes, has won a Superbowl?

Mobile is one thing, a running QB is another. Mahomes can move, but he's not a run first QB, same with allen. I rather have a QB that can scramble when he needs to and throw when he should. How many super bowls does Lamar have? Vick? Murrey. Fun to watch, get hurt often. Rather have a passer that can scramble, but not a QB that runs all the time.

You want a quarterback who is capable of running but a pocket passer first. There aren't many that are good at both. Mahomes is one. His opponent Hurts is not one of the better pocket passers. Philly is there because they are the strongest team in both trenches with a superstar running back.

Allen improved in the other tangibles of his game but at times he can have accuracy problems. He's almost there. Can carry a team so far.
But not enough to beat the best team. Jackson is ok as a pocket passer but far from elite. The top two MVP candidates are not in the Superbowl. There is a reason for that. The intangibles needed to be a champion are missing.

You're absolutely right... the dichotomy of "pocket passer vs. running QB" really is not descriptive of the various types of QBs.

QBs who are true runners (frequent designed runs/RPOs) have not had great success in the playoffs (Lamar Jackson being the most obvious recent example). Jalen Hurts now gets a chance to break through that barrier once again, but I don't see that as a trend towards runners.

Mobile QBs (Mahomes, for example) provide great value with their ability to escape and make plays. While Stafford lacks that ability, he does move well in the pocket, can throw on the run, and his passing ability and field vision remain elite.

So, no... I don't think anything is a "must" right now. When the Rams are ready to draft their QB of the future, I certainly would value mobility, but I'm not expecting a drastic change to a different type of offense.

Mahomes allows the argument to be made that you don’t need a QB that can run simply because he has dominated the SB the past 5 years.

Honestly, who besides Stafford is a classic drop back passer now who is legitimately capable of winning a SB? I don’t see one.

Brady is gone, Peyton is long gone, Brees is long long gone, and Stafford will be gone in a year or two. Then the argument becomes moot.

Well Goff can certainly win a super Bowl. The Lions were a dominant team. They choked. And they had no business losing to the Commanders.

Brock Purdy has proven he can take a team to the super bowl.

And Stafford is a fucking Beast. What pisses me off is we were one fucking play from beating those Eagles and we would be in the super bowl.

Home field advantage and that damn snow.

But the game was won by the Damn Center not knowing the play.


I looked at the Eagles we moved the ball up and down the field against them with Higbee.

I look for Mahomes to have a huge game against them and carve them up. Juju Smith Shuester will have a huge game against them.

Mahomes is a pocket Passer but hes also a scrambler. I wouldnt call him Lamar Jackson.

But what Makes him so great is when they wanna run a an option like Donovan Mcnab he can do that.

The Buffalo game he was like fuck it and just started running all over the place. He’s a runner when he has to run. Thats why I say he’s the best Quarterback ever. Brady could never do that.

Mahomes is a video game. When you need a run he will give you a run. When you need a pass he will give you a pass. He can read a defense. Knows when the blitz is coming. Knows where to go with the Football.


We will draft our mobile Quarterback. But enjoy Matthew Stafford while you have him at an elite level.

Yep your last point is spot on, when we lose Stafford it will be extremely hard to be relevant in the playoffs. YOU NEED A TOP 10 guy to compete. How would we do that, that is million dollar question.

But i hope to be enjoying Stafford for 1-2 years and hopefully McVay for more after that. Both have been godsends to the Rams.
