Yes they drafted the wrong Byron Young, but in what context?

The guy the Rams drafted is playing at a very high level and appears to have a great future in the NFL, the guy the Raiders drafted is no longer with the team and who knows if he will ever play in an NFL game again. So in this context, yes, the Raiders drafted the wrong guy.

Did the Raiders intend to choose the guy the Rams ended up with but made an honest mistake? I doubt it.

Logic says the regime that drafted 2023 1st round bust DE Tyree Wilson, got the Byron Young that they intended.

Its hard to say. Reportedly, they called the Rams pick just before the Raiders made their announcement. I think who ever submitted the card to the NFL messed up and considering what a mess that team is/was that makes more sense.

Then you look at this past draft. Seattle took Byron Murphy and from what I hear fans aren't overjoyed considering they could have had Jared Verse at edge or if they really wanted a DT they could have taken Fiske. IMO one of the reasons the Rams traded up to get Fiske is because they new he wouldn't drop to them in the second round.

This is a prime example of why you can't really judge a draft by these media pundits. The Chargers when they were in San Diego still, learned that the hard way. After they fired AJ Smith and turned to a family member and Tom Telesco to run the draft they found he was simply going along with the so called media "experts" and their drafting was a mess. It wasn't until they hired a professional scouting service that their drafts improved.

The Rams have shown that they have an excellent scouting organization which is why I'm not surprised that Holmes has done so well in Detroit. As I've posted earlier, I think Farmer is next for a GM position. Having a good GM is the lynchpin to building a team. He hires the HC and drafts the talent. DeCosta in Baltimore was hand-picked and groomed to replace Ozzie Newsome as their next GM when Newsome retired.

As much as McVay gets the credit for the Rams' success, it's primarily Snead, with McVay collaborating, who plan and execute the draft. It's why McVay's suddenly thinking about walking away was so traumatic. It's why IMO Snead and Kroenke have to be mindful of that eventuality. This is why I hope the next HC for the Rams is Chris Shula. They only need to look as far as Baltimore to see their seamless transition from Newsome to DeCosta.

Until the Raiders get a good GM they will always be a second-rate team.

For commentary on this, we now go to Curt Warner…

Oh, wait…you wanted the one who spells Kurt with a K?
