POST #1 TOPIC AUTHOR The obvious question that comes to mind is what if Garoppolo balls out against the Seahawks who will be playing their normal starters trying hard to win? Do the Rams see him as an alternative to Stafford who IMO is showing his age?Jimmy is 3 years younger than Stafford with a lot less wear on his body. He will be the same age as Stafford was when Matt signed with the Rams. He knows the offense, and most of all the team. He has been a positive force in the locker room and has the respect of his teammates. He's a vet who should excel at the style of offense McVay plays. Most of all McVay likes him. Think of how sweet it would be if they extended Jimmy and they swept the Niners again. The Niner fans would crap themselves since they don't sound like they will keep Purdy and are looking at starting all over again with another rookie.Extending him as the starter would mean little risk with a QB who has the talent to lead the current roster. They have a good OL, a strong run game, and a good WR room with a defense that will only get better. They could structure his contract to use the savings from Matt's contract to cover his contract, which would be $20+M / year for the first two years. It could escalate in his third and fourth years with an additional one or two void years to spread the cap hit to allow them to extend key defensive players when they need to. This way they can simply draft a QB on day three to groom as a backup for a year. Personally, I've disliked the Bennett pick since it was made. Someone like Kurtis Rourke on day 3 makes more sense. He fits the mold of a QB in this system but needs some developmental work but he isn't completely raw and could serve as a long-term backup. Stetson's play before he went off the deep end showed many issues particularly an inability to read defenses. I think some of that had to do with his 5'11" height. Even John Wolford was 6'1" which IMO is as short as you can get to be a pocket passer. Personally, I think it's feasible that the Rams might be looking at his play on Sunday with an eye on the future. What got me thinking about Jimmy is the way Sean talked about him. He really likes the guy and some of what he said is reminiscent of how he talked about Stafford right after they signed him. by PARAM 1 month 2 days ago Total posts: 12883 Joined: Jul 15 2015 Just far enough North of Philadelphia Hall of Fame What if Garoppolo balls out on Sunday..... POST #4 I posted this in the gameday thread but here's a snippet from Jourdan:There are people within the Rams organization who hoped the team would be positioned in this manner, specifically in order to get a look at what Garoppolo is capable of within the offense.Stafford restructured his contract after a long, though not acrimonious, offseason dispute and it now is effectively a one-year deal with the understanding that both sides will re-visit his future after this season. In a scenario in which Stafford is no longer a Ram (or he is, and gets injured), the team will need to know whether Garoppolo could be an effective (and cheap) bridge or a reliable backup after struggling to fill the latter role for the last few years.Jimmy G. doesn't seem to have a lot of arm strength and he sure threw a lot of picks in camp but no doubt he also knows the offense as well as any QB could. And if you remember week18 last year, Rams didn't do/show a lot on offense with Wentz starting. McVay didn't call the plays, doubt they did much game planning. So i'm not sure what we're gonna learn/see Sunday but i'll be watching... POST #6 Elvis wrote:I posted this in the gameday thread but here's a snippet from Jourdan:Jimmy G. doesn't seem to have a lot of arm strength and he sure threw a lot of picks in camp but no doubt he also knows the offense as well as any QB could. And if you remember week18 last year, Rams didn't do/show a lot on offense with Wentz starting. McVay didn't call the plays, doubt they did much game planning. So i'm not sure what we're gonna learn/see Sunday but i'll be watching...Hope he gets some pass protection. He mostly throws his INT's when on the move, terrible accuracy when his feet arent set.Hope the WR's makes some plays, tired of seeing offense so offensive. Dedich and Jackson are the only ones I have any confidence in. We only have 10 OL so some starters may play a little. POST #9 Seattle will be game planning for the Rams tendencies. And we tend to play different when Stafford, Kyren, Puka and Kupp aren't in the lineup. So there's that. They certainly won't be ready for a third down punt!!!! Been following the horns since the Coliseum had a Roman playing there. POST #10 Elvis, rams74 liked this post Sigh...ok, we get one person's opinion on Stafford. And that when cap realities are pointed out ($49M in dead cap if Stafford's gone next year, still half that with June 1 designation), they are ignored.I really hope Jimmy G plays good enough for the Rams to win this one game. Signing him for $20M per year is laughable.
