To say Jonah Jackson’s career trajectory in Los Angeles has taken an unexpected turn would be an understatement. The veteran guard has yet to regain a starting role after missing time due to injury and struggling in his first game back.

As Steve Avila and Kevin Dotson have cemented themselves in the starting lineup, there’s no room to involve Jackson in the offense. However, Jackson brings a specific skill set that could greatly benefit them in the playoffs.

It’s no secret that the success of the Rams’ offense is predicated on the run. It’s also no secret that the team has yet to establish a consistent rushing attack to mirror the success of last year.

Jackson is an excellent run blocker who can accelerate into the second level with balance. The team has some of the best mashers on their interior offensive line. It’s time for some bully ball, especially if the Rams need to go on the road in the playoffs.

As such, Los Angeles should install more formations that include an extra offensive lineman and of course that lineman should be Jackson – a move would give Kyren Williams more blockers to run behind. And since Matthew Stafford primarily targets Puka Nacua, the passing game wouldn’t lose as much effectiveness as one would think.

With the return of Tyler Higbee, the Rams could build a potent play action passing attack if Jackson’s play improves the run game. Regardless, for as much talent as Jackson has and as much money he’s being paid, if the desire is there, he deserves to play.

I've been thinking the same thing. He's being paid starter salary, why not use him.

So the author is suggesting to go to 6 OL (one would have to report as eligible), instead of a 3rd WR and just run the ball down the throats of the opponent while throwing a play action pass every so often

It would be a nice wrinkle - Detroit does it often and with success. But they use an additional OT, not OC. I guess it could work if the tackle eligible was Havs or A Jax with J Jax between the OG and T as TE.
