I watch most of Detroit's games and have for years. I spent 17 years in the Detroit area and became a fan of sorts while there. Jared Goff is the real deal. I was happy when he was sent packing but now that he's in the correct environment he's outstanding. I would even go as far to say that he's the main reason for the Lions recent success. Who new? Certainly not me.

I always said give Goff a good offensive line and he can be elite. He's as good as anyone when he can sit back there without much pressure. It changes when the protection isn't good. He's in a great situation. A good system. Good run game. High quality playmakers. A very good offensive line. We will see if all that is good enough for a championship.

Goff is an excellent QB. The difference between Goff 2020 and Goff 2024?

2. OL
3. Weapons, particularly in the run game.

Goff was excellent in 2018. He had Gurley, a good OL and weapons. Why didn't he win the SB?

Gurley was injured and Belichick designed a defense McVay couldn't overcome (in his 2nd year as a head coach).

Nobody should be shocked by Goff's performance this year. But I'm with Cowherd. No QB is playing better than Burrow. And he probably won't win the MVP.

Yes, but the award is Most Valuable Player, not Best Quarterback.

You have to consider where the Bengals are and where the Lions are. As good as Burrow is, the Bengals need an absolute miracle to make the playoffs. Not gonna happen.

I think you're right that Goff probably won't win the MVP, but maybe he should.

He was in the MVP conversation for a lot of 2018, dude can play at a high level. That's not new.

The tricky thing is the MVP usually comes from a team that makes the postseason. And sometimes, if the team has enough talent, the question arises, which player was the MVP.

It was Warner. But was it really? Was it Faulk? Was it Goff? Or Gurley?

Is it Goff with all those weapons around him or is it Burrow with fewer weapons around him? Josh Allen doesn't have near the weapons Goff has. Hell, he might not have the weapons Burrow has! And even if the Bengals miraculously make the postseason, maybe it should be Allen anyway? A lot of talk for Lamar but Allen has done more IMHO.

With all things considered I think that Allen will be the MVP.

I’m rooting for Goff to win SB this year. I think he’s got a good shot.

It’s hard to rank Goff. He does a few things as well or better than the top 5 QBs, but he gets downgraded for worse than average performance under pressure. Still, he’s not as bad as he was a few years ago.

I agree with most of this. Goff is a very good QB. Is he elite? Not in my opinion. He does some things elite for sure. I think they get bounced from the playoffs. Just a guess

Josh wins it bc he has that added element of running which allows him to take over games almost by himself. Goff is in the convo for top 5 QBs IMO. And, he has outplayed Stafford lately.
