The defense was terrible. I told my buddy at work they have only held one team under 20, the raiders with 15.

Shula has much more talent than Morris had last year and the defense is much worse.

No pass rush tonight either.

This is just my opinion. But to me this season is done. Just not tough enough.

All I can do is shake my head over this thread. Obviously, the author is into instant gratification.

What about the OL? Should we fire Wendell as well? Why not fire McVay and Snead? This game showed what is needed to improve.

Avila got his butt handed to him. He and the other OL need to hit the weight training hard and strengthen significantly. McClendon isn't an OT, he might not be an OG either. The Rams need upgrades at both OTs next year.

Small RBs are useless in pass protection and Williams is a fumbler, too many times he fumbles at the worst possible moment.

Stafford is a sitting duck an easy target the defense simply needs to tee off on. Like I said in another thread there is no OL in the NFL that can consistently protect a QB that is basically immobile. McVay may love Matt but long term the Rams need a QB that can move as well as throw.

Their secondary must be a priority next year. Darious Williams is too small and not fast enough. His lack of length is a problem on the boundary in today's NFL. He gained weight since his rookie year to play outside but it would appear he's lost speed because of it. I admit it I've never been a fan of short boundary CBs because it changes how they must play the position.

This team isn't fast enough and not strong enough to tough it out with big, fast opposition. This team is somewhat like what the Eagles were like a couple of years ago. Their loss in the Super Bowl exposed weaknesses in their roster that they made a point of rectifying.

The Rams need one more good draft to plug the holes. McVay is paying the price for assuming J. Jackson could play center. That was a very winnable game that Jackson's ineptitude cost the Rams. The Rams have lost their margin for error because the way it's looking a team who is 10-7 and not a division winner may not make the playoffs depending upon tie breakers. The Bills game becomes a must win game now.

The Rams can still make the playoffs but they will need help if they don't take the division. Once in the playoffs it's a whole different season. I'm not giving up on the Rams but they need some changes to be made.

If I have a criticism of Shula is he rarely plays his 4 best OL players together. He platoons them in rotation constantly moving them around. I understand why he's doing it but there is a downside. These guys can't take advantage of OL tendencies when they are constantly being rotated and moved around. That was really clear in this game. Playing his best guys piecemeal allows the OL to dictate how they in turn play dependent upon who they are facing.

There is no question changes will be made, but firing the DC isn't one of them.

Huh? Who are you? I'm glad I had time to read your book. Your reply was rude. Now don't ever reply to me again.

Your posts about moving Jonah Williams to ILB were interesting to say the least.

This post is my opinion. Like everyone else's. And Shula is toast after this season.

The Rams are undermanned and have been since the SB season. They went all in and won 3 years ago. Great but the toll that win has taken is obvious. There are a few shiny pieces worth hanging on to but future greatness may involve some level of teardown.

The YOUNG defense went against the best o-line in football. How did you think it would go?
The Rams faced the best RB in the league, how did you think it would go when the offense went 3 and out 3x times in row in the second quarter.

Shula has done a very good job, just need the DL to continue learning and get a couple corner and an ILB in the draft.

I think the defense has generally exceeded expectations this year. Last night obviously was an epic ass kicking, for the defense especially.

Last year pretty much everyone agreed Vance Joseph needed to be fired as Denver's DC especially after they lost 70-20 to the Dolphins, giving up 726 yards including 350 on the ground.

This year Joseph and the Broncos have arguably the NFL's best defense.

Doesn't mean Shula will have the Rams playing elite defense soon but it does show you the immediate reaction to an ass beating isn't always the right one. Of course it isn't always the wrong one either...

I get that people aren't happy about the loss. Looking for someone to blame. But lets be real. This is not a Superbowl roster. The team they played last night is. They are clearly better. What did you expect? We go out and show were are an elite team when we're clearly not?

But its not like we are a bad team. We're a borderline playoff team. Not a Superbowl caliber team. The young guys on defense can learn something from that game. In a couple weeks they play another team that is clearly better. Last night's game just might prepare them better for what they will face. In any case, the other games on the schedule are winnable.

I was worried about this game. They are huge and physical. Avila played his worst game.
What really upset me was Sean's play calling. ALL of our allowed sacks were only when we kept Matthew in the pocket. Early in this game, we did a lot of play action roll-outs and found solid success in doing so. In the first qtr we had more yards than we did in any other qtr this year. Then we stopped doing the roll outs and nearly got our QB killed.
McClendan is horrible. He was getting dominated and what did Sean do? He failed to at least help the guy with a TE to assist him. That costs us two sacks. Then Avila and AJ both got beat on different plays. Sean is a genius at times, but he seems so stubborn to keep doing the same things that are failing. Yeah, we shit the bed...........but we are a very young D and with Barkley out there.....we aren't ready for that yet. As for our youngins on D, so far, only Fiske and Hoecht have very good hand technique. Verse and Young both looked like it was a sled (aka OT's) pushing contest and rarely working to free themselves early.
I'll be delighted if we make the playoffs this year, but I'm not expecting it. Just want to see more fire in our guys and to continue improving on D. The Oline horrible in the second half---I still cannot believe how bad they were.
