New kickoff rule

I think this new kickoff rule is weak/lame and takes away from one of the more exciting aspects of the game.

I get that they want to prevent more injuries, but this is a "bridge too far" IMO.

If you want to prevent more injuries, how about letting team dress all 53 so you can have you SP players available.

I don't think we got a good idea of what it's going to be from these preseason games.

But i have to day, it hasn't bothered me as much as i thought it might...

What were the stats for concussions on kickoffs? Like kickoffs are only 2% of the plays but account for 40% of the concussions IIRC?

I get it as it’s odd to watch the kickoffs under the new rules. But something needed to give in the name of safety and player health.

Yes, and with that perspective I'm willing to live with it (as if I had a choice).

But that doesn't mean I don't hate it. It's starting to bother me more than I thought it might.

It still seems like a meh play to me, see if the regular season is any different

If the Rams score or give up a TD/big play on one - it will change a lot of perspectives.

And what was it, 78% of kicks weren't returned last year? It had become a dead play. Either fix it or get rid of it i guess...

I bet what we're going to see is a number of seasons where they tweak the kickoff rule.

I don't think they're going to eliminate it because it's a convenient place for a TV timeout/commercial break. And the last thing the NFL would ever do is reduce a revenue stream.

I think teams late in the game and in close games will kick it out of the end zone? With the new rules, they get it in the 30 instead of the 25? Gladly surrender those 5 yards instead of a potential huge return.
