Saints likely to have training camp in Irvine, California

By Michael David Smith
Published February 15, 2024

The Saints are planning to head to California for training camp this summer.

With construction ongoing as part of renovations of the Saints’ facility in Metairie, Louisiana, the University of California at Irvine is the likely host of Saints camp in 2024, according to Jeff Duncan of NoLa.com.

A deal between the Saints and the university has not been finalized but is expected to get done, at which point an official announcement will be made.

The Saints, who are slated to play two preseason games on the road and one at home, will likely request that their two road games come in the first two weeks of the preseason, preferably against teams that play in the West, and that their third and final preseason game be played at home in New Orleans.

The Saints have gone to Southern California for joint practices in training camp several times, including last year when they practiced with the Chargers before playing them in a preseason game.

The Rams have previously had training camp at the Irvine location but are planning to have it this year at their practice facility in the Woodland Hills neighborhood of Los Angeles.

I didn't think Woodland Hills would be read for camp that soon, certainly doubt it would be able to host many fans.

We haven't heard from the Rams yet but seems like Irvine could be over...

If they're leaving they must know where they're going, right?

They're building Woodland Hills which replaces CLU but i don't think it's ready/big enough to host training camp (unless they plan to do it with few/no fans). Not to mention it will be a lot hotter there. Ultimately Woodland Hills will be a whole complex, including indoors, but for starters it's going to be trailers and a couple outdoor fields, like CLU.

Of course we don't even know for sure this story is true.

Interesting. The Rams have repeatedly said they want to keep a footprint in Orange County, thought that was goning to be UCI for years to come.

We've yet to hear anything from the Rams side of things, so who really knows what's what?

Loyola does have an athletic field but I can't remember how big it is. They couldn't have a more beautiful location. My ex-wife used to go there but it was a long long time ago when I was there. Public access would be the main issue IMO.

The field was for soccer if I remember correctly so there should be adequate room. They could stay at Marina Del Rey and it's a short bus ride.
