Okay, so we change very little. Or just tweak it. Here's hoping he's hired away to be a head coach in 3 years.

I like the selection. He has coached under three different Ram's DC's in Phillips, Staley and Raheem. He's coached outside and inside LB's and the secondary for one year. He's ready.

I would not be surprised if Joe Barry comes back as the asst. head coach and LB's coach, and Pleasant stays as our DB coach (hopefully). Caley doesn't get the job in NE so he returns to LA as the TE coach and maybe takes on a larger role like passing game coordinator. Hopefully Peetz stays and becomes the QB coach.

A good day for the Rams. By my calculation we have to fill the DL coach position, the QB coach position, the ILB coach position and the asst. ST coach position.

Will be interesting to see how the remaining defensive coaching positions are filled.

We might see some candidates emerge from his time with the Chargers or from the college ranks.

..and for the record, that’s the first time McVay has promoted and assistant to a coordinator role which answers my other thread Q. I think this was a solid move!

I would be shocked if AC Carter doesnt get the DL position.

From Jourdan:

https://theathletic.com/5245646/2024/02 ... ris-shula/

McVay has not promoted internally for any of his coordinator positions until Shula, who has worked under Wade Phillips, Brandon Staley and Morris (Staley was also in strong consideration for the job, sources said).

It’s a jump for Shula, but it seemed clear McVay was trying to prepare his longtime assistant for the role with moves between defensive backs and linebackers jobs and a shot at calling the defense for a preseason game each year.

Until Shula speaks with media, we won’t know what his defensive philosophy specifically as a coordinator is — but hiring in-house like this does give McVay a lot of control over the system and Shula has experience in each of the last two variations of the Rams’ current scheme, initially installed in 2020.

I'm not super excited about this one. The biggest reason is having been with the Rams the last 7 years, he doesn't bring any knowledge of outside defenses, no relationships with other coaches or players that might now want to come to the Rams. He's McVay's best friend from college and Jourdan says this will give McVay a lot of control over the system.

Could be great and i trust McVay a lot but some of this gives me a little pause...
