McCaffrey out. Is Purdy playing? I think that would be a risky move with absolutely nothing to gain. Remember what happened to him last year? I'd like to see him out there so our DL could give him a few pops. OTOH, why play Stafford? Or Kupp? Or AD? I'd hate to earn the 6th seed and have to play the WC game without one of them. Wentz could earn a nice contract somewhere (even with the Rams) by winning a big game for the Rams.

This should help, obviously.

Very key in my mind to be the 6 seed, not the 7.

Why is it key to be the 6th seed? I think I’d rather be the 7th seed.

A couple of reasons, IMO.

The universal one is, as the 6, we have the hope (albeit faint) that the 7 upsets the 2 and then THEY have to face the 1-seeded 49ers who are the only team with a Bye while we would then get the easier 4-5 winner.

The 2nd reason, and this one varies each year is that the 2-seeded at the moment Cowboys, who have a current SIXTEEN GAME Win streak at Home are probably harder than the 3 seeded Lions who have many players (outside of the Quarterback) playing in their first ever Playoff game.

💯 Brooklyn. Any of the 3 - Dallas, Detroit, Philly will be a difficult out. But I like our chances vs Detroit the best. And as you stated, outside chance 7 takes down 2 (Packers @ Dallas as it stands right now) and has to face the Whiners. While we, if we beat Detroit, would get the winner of the 4 vs 5 ( currently Philly @ Tampa).

That would be a cool path to the NFCC

And also the off-chance (ever so slight) that as the 6 we can still host the Championship Game. You always go for the highest seed possible.

I think McVay will play most of his starters against Shanny for a couple of reasons.

Lots of young guys, need to clean things up after poor Giants performance, get Puka the record, Shanny did a number on him in 2017 when he rested our guys, and this year was more about improving than making a SB run.

Honestly, I would love to beat the Niners backups by 30 points and go into WC week on a high note.

I think this is fun for fans. McVay has to focus on more immediate strategies. Health and readiness, travel, how they match up. I agree all 3 will be tough opponents but weather be damned I have to feel Philly is the most vulnerable right now. I’m not sure we could stop the Lions’ ground game. Swift and Pollard are also a challenge but the Eagles are reeling. Returning to Detroit may be too emotional for Stafford and Dallas at home? If we can survive the first 2 rounds SF may be a bit battered by then and we would be playing with house money but I don’t care who we play in January.
