Good piece by Florio.
Oh the pain, of being "stuck in the middle."

Article is a little premature if you ask me. He's had a bad two game stretch, but it's noteworthy that in these two games it's Goff Doing Goff Things, soft fumbles, not managing the game, the exact types of things that got him in McVay's doghouse.
Anyway, with Florio you always have to look for the angle, and it's in the article if you look for it ..

Aware of Florio's dislike for Goff, at least his feelings on Jared being a true, Top 10 Franchise Quarterback and a guy worthy of yet another "max" Contract.
However, he really ain't lying about nothing in that piece.

Florio is an idiot. Still working that good cop, bad cop routine like the rest of sports talk radio.
Florio wrote:The Lions found a way to erase a 26-14 deficit late in the fourth quarter to beat Chicago.
Yeah, shit, let me see if I remember how they did that....on the last 2 drives...5 runs for 33 yards, 1 TD.....Goff 10 of 12 for 115 yards, 1 TD and a 2 pt conversion pass.

Yes, Goff was SUPERB in that comeback.
Of course, it was HE who caused the need for a comeback.
Bottom line: it's still a VERY close call on if Lions should proceed with him beyond 2024 via a mega-contract or start fresh with a new cheaper QB. With no discredit to Jared of course. He just happens to fall right on that edge of "Franchise QB or not?" along with Cousins and Dak.

Franchise QB is a myth. Marino was THE franchise QB. 0 Lombardis. Rodgers is a franchise QB and has 1. That's the same as Trent Dilfer, Joe Flacco and Brad Johnson. Which is also the same as Steve Young and Peyton Manning.

So would you extend Goff beyond 2024 with an extension in the 4-160 range if you were the Lions? Not being argumentative PARAM just wondering.

Not yet. I would let him play out the year and see how he does, then extend him if he continues to play well. He's won 16 of his last 21 games, 17 of 22 if today's score holds. I know everbody is sure Caleb, Maye and Penix will be much better but a bird in the hand......

I would because who is replacing him? Herndon Hooker? Florio suggests Kirk Cousins, I take Goff over the next four years.
The Jets have a playoff caliber team except for the QB position after Rodgers got hurt. When you have a legitimate starting NFL QB that can get your team into the playoffs, you hang onto them for dear life.
Florio is one of those people that can’t admit they were wrong and will double and triple down on their position despite evidence to the contrary.

It’s nice to have a guy who can take over a game if you need him to like Mahomes or Burrow or even Stafford but it looks like this year one of the “second tier” guys like Tua or Lamar or Dak have a good shot. Goff absolutely belongs in that group and the lions offense is cooking.
