Do we need to go out and get another edge rusher? Cornerback? Defensive tackle? Running back? We seem to need a lot of things but going out to get them via trade is going to do what, exactly? Make us a Superbowl contender? I don't think so. Make us a division winner? Not the way SF is playing. Make us a playoff team? Sure. Make that probably.

So why would we spend draft capital via a trade to bring in somebody on the last year of his contract or somebody with time left but not as good? And with our multiple needs (perceived) which one position should we shoot for?

The idea this past off season was jettison the excess baggage....either older, expensive or disgruntled.....and start over again building around our stars Stafford, Donald and Kupp. Without a first round pick again, they went with the volume approach using 14 selections to see what they could find.

So far, I think it's pretty clear they found a stud guard, a stud edge rusher and a stud receiver. There are some who believe they have found a DT, TE and CB in Turner, Allen and Hodges-Tomlinson. 6 is a pretty good haul for any draft. Throw in a backup QB and a punter and that's 8. And we don't even know yet if we've found anything else in Mathis, Zach Evans and Warren McClendon. Add those guys to the recent draft crops and they might just be a good team.

One thing we do know....or should know.....is it ain't gonna happen overnight. These kids are going to have to be exposed and learn from it. And that takes time. Which is the thing we need the most. So if we can tread water through the first half of the season, perhaps we can be a 2023 playoff team without giving up future draft capital. Now wouldn't that be nice?

If the Rams were to make a move it would be for now AND the future. I could see them trying to trade for a RB and a young EDGE player.

They like to acquire talent so I could see them doing almost anyrhing. But....who gets rid of a "young'" edge player? And I could be wrong but they went edge 3 times in the draft and hit on one already. So I don't think they 'll make a move there until they know about Mathis.

Very well could happen, but if they want to compete THIS YEAR I think they will make a move or two. VanValkenberg maybe ahead of Mathis, 17-10 play respectively. Not sure we can wait on development here, but again it depends on how badly the Rams want to compete for this year and the years following.

Compete for what? A Super Bowl? The Division? A playoff spot? I think they may want to compete with who they have on the roster now.

Agree 100%.

On a side note, the Eagles just produced their lowest points output on the season. So despite needing to improve our pass rush, despite giving up 454 yards we've allowed the lowest offensive output on the season to the Eagles.

Compete for this year means chance at playoffs, next year its about more than that.

Philly could easily scored there at the end, but yeah overall 23ish points isnt terrible but that time of possession tells more of the story....you got to be able to tackle a QB and make him pay.

based off the gamebook,

Mathis only played 10 snaps on D.

I didn't even notice he was in the game.

Now when you're an OLinemen, and you don't here their name,

Thats a good sign.

But when you're on the DL,

and your name is not mention,

that is not a good sign.

That means the OL is controlling you.

So that being said,

We need to find a big physical DT/NT vet to clog up the middle,

With Brown going on the IR.

And a Edge rusher vet to put on some pressure.

The key is, can we find them for a vet min salary.

Haven’t checked the stats but it looked to me like Mathis got 1 pressure.

As far as trading for edge or any other position, can’t see them doing it unless it’s for a longer term deal with a guys on/at the end of first (rookie) contract. Also, they need to consider some extensions. Witherspoon, Dotson to name 2.

I can see them doing nothing “big” developing/signing who they have, and waiting for the off season/draft to make significant moves to upgrade.

I would like to see what an upgrade to Hoecht would do for this team. Pulling hard for Mathis to develop quickly and show potential. I’d also like to see more of Lake, Tomlinson and where has JJ3 been?

We're getting close to when the Rams will make a move if they're going to but so far i haven't seen them spend significant money this year. Taking on Dotson's $3 mil might be the biggest thing they've done so far. (Not sure how much new money due now Higbee's extension involved but maybe that was significant.)

Trade deadline is Halloween...
