CB Jeff Okudah was Detroit's 3rd Overall Pick in 2020 (after QB Joe Burrow & DL Chase Young), and the Lions just traded him to the Falcons for a 2023 5th Rounder. :idea2:

On paper, this looks like Detroit got fleeced by Atlanta eh! :o
Okudah has definitely been up&down with the Lions and his Achilles tear in 2021 didn't help his stock value......but Okudah, even with his warts, looks superior in value to any 5th Rounder 2023 Rookie CB, no?

Question: Why didn't Les Snead do this deal with his old subordinate & buddy Lion GM Brad Holmes?

Answer: MONEY!
per overthecap.com Jeff Okudah is due "$10,668,167.00 in 2023 (4.71% of Cap)"

Quoting the Rams Scout who jumped into the pool last Draft when Logan Bruss fell to us....
"The Rams are not shopping in that aisle...."

I guess the Falcons think their ex-Ram Jan.31, 2023 hire of Jerry Gray their HC,Defense can unlock Okudah's hidden (thus far) talent potential.

If there was any fleecing done, it was by Detroit. The fact Okudah was the 3rd overall pick in 2020 is irrelevant. That's a failure on the Lions part. No wonder the GM got fired. But he's played like a 6th rounder, at best. When he was on the field. Missed 7 games his rookie year, 16 games in year 2 and 2 games last year. Hell that's Noteboom territory...and we know how some fans feel about that!!!

Why didn't Les Snead do this deal with buddy? Brad Holmes probably didn't even call Snead!!! Money? Yeah, that indirectly had something to do with it. As in, "we're gonna give THAT guy THIS much money.....and give up a 5th round pick? In your dreams!!!" Atlanta did give up a 5th round pick....which by some estimates was on the high side. What is a failed, oft injured 3rd pick in the draft worth after 1 half-decent season (and half of the half-decent was because he 'only missed' 2 games)? Not much.

FWIW, here's Detroit's defensive rankings from 2020 - 2022.

2020: 32nd in points allowed, 32nd in yards allowed, 30th vs the pass
2021: 31st in points allowed, 29th in yards allowed, 24th vs the pass
2022: 28th in points allowed, 32nd in yards allowed, 30th vs the pass.

(Hell if it wasn't for Jared Goff and that offense, those numbers might have been worse! #5 offense, 25.6 PPG, 4th in RZ%. I don't know what their TOP was but they ran 1092 plays, 2 less than Kansas City! And they were #5 in yards per play.)

Some might say, their best year was the year Okudah missed all but 1 game. Kudos to Les Snead for not even considering biting on this piece of 3 year thawed moose meat. Hey, the kid might turn it around and show everybody why he was picked third. Atlanta is paying $5.182 mil plus to find out. Detroit is paying more than that in dead money ($5.486 mil) to let Atlanta find out! Tells you what they thought of their 3rd overall pick in 2020.

Sheesh, a guy tries to report some sports news on an usual NFL trade of a former Third Overall 2020 Draft Pick....
and a Jared Goff Love-in breaks out! :?

Well, let me say this about that.....fuck Jared Goff....mainly, but not entirely to me, because he's not a Ram anymore!
Oh yeah, and fuck his historically worst ever Points Scored in a SuperBowl with "3" in SBLIII (Tie with 1971 Dolphin Bob Griese vs Dallas in SBVI).

Some guys really like to compare....
okay let's compare two 6'4" First Overall Pick QBs who played for Jeff OffensivelyChallenged Fisher Ram Teams okay?
Sam ForeverTheRams'TimCouch Bradford played for Fisher in 2012 & Bradford's injury-hobbled 2013 season, and in those two seasons Sam Bradford went 7-8-1 and 3-4 respectively.....so both times just missing out on .500 football. :idea2:

Jared Goff played in a Jeff Fisher Offense (with stud Todd Gurley) in 2016. Remember how Goff did? I do! Friggin' 0-7. :oops2:

Hey, if guys wanna line up and kiss Goff's arse, even when he is no longer a Ram, who cares?
It's still a Free Country. Just don't ask me to join in for the guy who delivered Detroit's first win of 2021...
...in friggin' December! :P

Oh and finally, Los Ramos not participating in the Jeff Okudah sweepstakes was "indirectly due to money" is like saying Imperial Japanese Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto died on April 18th, 1943 (80 years next week) "indirectly" because US Army Air Corps P-38 Lightnings shot down the bomber he was a passenger on near Bouganville Island!! :lol2: :lol2: :lol2:

Los Ramos also indirectly didn't have the $1.77MIL scratch needed to sign SS Taylor RamsVetWhoKnowsTheSystem Rapp.....but hey, who really knows if the Rams even wanted Rapp back right? After all we have Richard LeCounte...eh?? :P

This 2023 OffSeason......it's ALL about money....and the lack thereof! :idea2:

LMFAO. Wow. Really musta struck a nerve? In what world does the mere mention of Goff constitute "a love fest"? Maybe a more accurate question would be, "in what mind?" I wondered why the weekly Great White North Goff reports, complete with stats, descriptions and accounts of his games had stopped this season. I thought maybe the NFL police might have made an arrest for lack of written consent! :lol2: Now, it comes out......it's because he wasn't a Ram? Go figure. With all these uniform changes it must have escaped my notice the Rams wore Honolulu Blue in 2021!!! :lol2:

But how in the hell did Sam Bradford (and Bob Griese) enter into a Jeff Okudah discussion? Goff was a team mate who helped limit the amount of time Okudah and his buddies had to allow opponents to gain yards and score. And it still didn't help! :o :arrow2: :idea2: Bradford was retired a couple of years before the Lions drafted the CB. Griese? Hell, Griese's freakin son was retired by then too! Glad I didn't mention the inaccurate 10 mil + cap hit the Rams couldn't afford was really a tick over 5 mil. About half. Lord only knows what tangent that might have set off! A detailed account of one of Stanley E. Kroenke's ficticious conversations with Demoff, Snead and McVay, explaining to them with naughty graphs and charts held up by cheap hookers, money doesn't grow on Walmarts artificial Christmas trees?

*****NEWSFLASH!!***** THIS JUST IN!! From the Great White North news room! 2023 is about money. Or lack thereof!

Good thing too. The Rams couldn't afford to trade for a 3rd overall pick, 3 year vet entitled to the paltry sum of 5 mil. Judging by his performance the last 3 years, it might have been greeted with a Jason Smith or Greg Robinson "can't learn from your mistakes" reference!!! :D

Geesh.

Here's some other trades the Rams couldn't afford to make...

Stephon Gilmore, CB (#10 overall in 2012).....supposedly we really need a CB but Gilmore has considerable tread off his tires........traded from the Colts (who just signed him last year to a 2-year deal) to the Cowboys for a 5th round comp pick (#176). But he actually is costing the Cowboys almost 10 mil in cap charges (#6 on their roster). However, he's actually played like a #10 overall pick. The Colts only had to eat 2 mil in dead money.

Jonnu Smith, TE, 3rd round pick (#100), 252 career receptions......don't we need another one of those guys......was traded from New England to Atlanta for a 7th round draft pick (#245). New England incurred a 12.8 mil dead cap charge in 2023. He was originally only a 3rd round pick though. He's costing Atlanta 6 mil in 2023 (#9 in their cap order).

Shaq Mason, G, 4th round pick in 2015 (#131).....isn't Ramsnation looking for an IOL......got traded again too. Last year for a 5th round pick (New England to Tampa) and this year for an exchange of picks (Tampa got a 6th; Houston got a 7th and Mason). Only an original 4th round pick but with 2 Lombardi's under his belt. 8.5 mil cap charge for Houston (#4 on their list). Tampa is eating 4.3 mil in dead money.

Hell we're loaded with 5th, 6th and 7th round picks!!! But the list goes on and on with the number of players the Rams could really use but can't afford. What are the common denominators? Well, the Cowboys are the Cowboys and no matter how much money Jerrah spends, they haven't made it past the Divisional round since 1995. Atlanta (who nabbed both Jonnu and Okudah) hasn't had a winning season since 2017 and Houston has won 11 games total, the last 3 years. The Rams can't compete with that? Talk about rock bottom! Still, Okudah makes the forum as a subject of a thread? A guy who's missed 25 games in his short 3 year career? Must be the Brad Holmes connection. Or maybe because he commanded the highest compensation for those 4 trades? Or maybe just another way to state the obvious? Again.

^^^^Anxiously awaiting a Zane Gonzalez thread.

Everyone is both a winner and got fleeced this time of year. The real truth is yet to be determined. We'll have to wait till they actually start playing to know for sure.

Except the Rams. They didn't plan well (2 Superbowls and a Lombardi in 5 years) and as a result got fleeced by Miami, can't afford to sign a long snapper and are doomed to being whale shit in the NFL ocean for the next few years! And McVay re-upped for this?

Sometimes fans are right. Sometimes they are wrong. A couple years ago we were certainly right when we went ballistic over passing on Creed Humphrey in favor of little Tutu. But it didn't stop them when winning a championship that season.
