If the Rams win out do they try and deal Stafford or does he have that Goff contract

I seriously doubt that happens. For two reasons.
1....the cap hit would be horrendous and
2. he's pretty fucking good!

Matt Stafford signed a four year extension worth $160 million with the Rams on March 19, 2022. Per PFT the contract contains $120 million in guarantees of which $63 million is guaranteed at signing. Stafford receives a $60 million signing bonus and his 2022 (1.5 mil) and 2023 (1.5 mil) base salaries are guaranteed. If Stafford is on the roster on the 3rd day of the 2023 league year his 2023 option bonus and 2024 base salary (31 mil) will be fully guaranteed. There are 3rd day of the league year roster bonuses in both 2025 (5 mil) and 2026 (5 mil).

I don't see it happening. I think the earliest anything happens with him is 2025. If he's released in 2025 prior to 3rd day of the year, we have a cap hit of 18.5 mil and a savings of 32 mil. And if I'm reading it right, we'll get hit with another 18.5 mil in 2026.

Baker would have to hang around until 2025 if Stafford doesn't get injured (or retire) before that. Now if they offered him a multi year deal (5 years) with low salaries in 2023 and 2024 but a significant signing bonus, they might be able to manage it, combined with Stafford's dead money hit in 2025, if that were the plan. It's not like he's going to lose a lot of jack. He had all those commercials when he was in Cleveland. Imagine what he could get in L.A.!

3.5 weeks ago, would you have suggested the rams trade Stafford and acquire Mayfield? Not a chance. He’s played 3 games. Looked great in 2. I actually think baker needs the Rams more than the other way around. He would be wise to stay here as a short term back up and eventual replacement to a Stafford. His ego and his agent won’t let that happen. Can’t say I’d blame him for they thinking.

If they were to advertise it as the Rams are loading up long term with Baker to take over next..., it could fly, , maybe.
But for it to work, McVay needs to commit to sticking around for a while or BM might as well go elsewhere. McV is the attraction (besides LA).
Stafford needs to sign off.

I agree.

1. Look around the NFL, how many quality starting QBs are there?
2. Look at how long some teams have been trying to get one with minimal success. e.g. the Jets have used how many high picks and have nothing to show for it.
3. Signing Baker allows the Rams to use draft picks on other positions. If they don't sign him, and Stafford goes down (he's a higher risk to go down at this stage of his career), then we've got a huge problem at by far the most important position.
4. Baker is doing well now with a crap OL and no Kupp. It's not a stretch to think he'll do even better next year.
5. Baker is 7 years younger than Stafford, he could be a long term solution working with McVay and avoiding the big rebuild.

What would they call that? "All in" wouldn't fit. "Long haul-in"? 8-)

We know the Rams would trade a Goff contract because they did.

But according to Jourdan anyway, the plan remains: Stafford comes back healthy, Mayfield gets us a comp pick...

The sample size with Baker is small with the Rams. His larger sample size is no where near comparable to Stafford. The Rams are sticking with Stafford (as they should). And will probably try to convince Baker to sign as the back up/heir apparent. But more reasonable is he moves on to start somewhere else and we get the aforementioned comp pick.

Question; do we get that comp pick in 2024 or for the 2023 draft??
