Chargers submit plans for O.C. facility

The team submitted grading and landscape plans for approval to the City of Santa Ana

It's another sign. This one is tangible.

Should the Chargers move to Los Angeles, the team's home base would be in Orange County.

The team this week submitted grading and landscape plans for approval to the City of Santa Ana.

In a statement, the Chargers said, "The plans are for a five-acre parcel in Santa Ana that would be the location of the team’s interim headquarters and training facilities in the event the team exercises its option to relocate to the Los Angeles area."

According to sources, the Chargers and Rams are close to finalizing a deal to share a stadium in Inglewood. The Rams plan to begin play in the stadium in 2019, and the Chargers have the option to join them.

The team statement said: "The franchise is continuing to review all of its options, and no final decision on relocation has been made. It was necessary for the team to submit the grading and landscape plans now because of the long lead time necessary to secure land use approvals and to prepare the natural grass practice fields in time for the team’s offseason workout schedule."

And I have a feeling that the Chargers will play in Orange County until Inglewood is built.

The Big A ?
If they are going to take the risk to play in LA, that would be a smart move. It would make the transition for SD fans an hour easier and it would bag some of the potential OC Rams fans away. Then the fans all acclimate and move to LA with the then 3 year old LA Chargers.
In a way, if things go good, I can almost see him staying there. He might not get LA but he'd get a huge chunk of SoCal.

Still seems risky overall. No guarantee the SD fans will differentiate between OC and LA when it comes to them not being in San Diego.

Oh, Santa Ana College stadium would be perfect, right? No? No?

The idea of trying to steal the OC market sounds like a solid market strategy and probably is solid. But the Los Angeles Chargers of Anaheim . . . man, that just invites jokes. But yeah, people flocked to see the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim with Tinkerbell poofing after each goal, so who knows?
