born: william schallert, 93 years young and still goin' strong...



so i'm streaming the andy griffith show on my second monitor while i play around with some new software on the primary, and i notice william schallert is one of the guest stars, a face i've seen a thousand times but a name that i never bothered to know or remember... so i took a moment to google him and, sure enough, he's been in what seems to be every television series made from 1947 forward, including guest starring on the donna reed show along with sid gillman, jon arnett, les richter, don burroughs and billy wade, in the episode "all mothers worry", in which a young boy secretly plays football against his parents' wishes...

anyway, glad i googled w. schallert, seeing all of those old tv shows he starred in was a warm trip down memory lane, some of you old farts can probably relate... here's to william, hope you see another 93! btw, donna was kind of a little hottie...

I know him from the Patty Duke Show as Patty's dad, Martin Lane.

Boy, does that bring back fond memories for me growing up in NY and the show being set in Brooklyn Heights. I'm not ashamed to say I still sing the TV show song in the shower.

Funny you mention the Andy Griffith show. I watched them all on Netflix with my 12-year-old son last year. He does a pretty good Barney Fife. He mastered the scene below including the bit with the hands on the face. Classic stuff. Recommended to all.

On a side note, I dated Don "The Blade" Burroughs daughter Laura for a spell. Really cool lady.
