Raiders, Carmen Policy miss Carson town hall meeting

Posted by Mike Florio on June 24, 2015, 9:01 AM EDT

At a time when San Diego is struggling to build a stadium that will keep the Chargers, Carson isn’t having the easiest time when it comes to building a stadium that will lure them.

On Monday night, a town hall meeting was held in Carson regarding the proposed stadium that would be used by the Chargers and Raiders. However, the Raiders didn’t show up for it.

Also not showing up for the meeting was Carmen Policy, the man hired by the two teams to spearhead the project. Carson mayor Albert Robles told XTRA 1360 in San Diego on Tuesday that Policy wanted to attend, but had travel issues.

“My understanding is that Carmen was supposed to be there, but he missed his flight and was not able to make it,” Robles said. “And it was supposed to be his presentation, and I tried to wing it as best as I could. But Mr. Policy did apologize, he did convey his regrets, he said that he would make up for it.”

The Raiders’ absence is more curious, and it’s possibly tied to the proposal that the team recently received regarding a plan for bridging the gap between the cost of a new Oakland stadium and the joint Raiders/NFL contribution to it.

Owner Mark Davis has repeatedly said he wants to stay in Oakland, and it definitely appears that the Chargers are currently more motivated to move to L.A. than the Raiders are.

Which ultimately could mean that the Chargers will share a stadium not with the Raiders in Carson, but with the Rams in Inglewood.

WHOA! Reason Carmen Policy didn’t show at Carson meeting: “We should not be engaged in a beauty contest”
June 24, 2015 10:19 AM

Longtime NFL executive Carmen Policy was hired by the Oakland Raiders and San Diego Chargers on May 18 to lead their efforts in building a football stadium in Carson.

On Monday night Carson held a Town Hall meeting in which the Stadium Presentation that had been shown to the NFL owners would be shown to the public in attendance. Last week Carson Mayor Albert Robles specifically invited Fred Roggin to emcee the event. However, at the meeting the presentation was not shown.

Today, KNX sportscaster Randy Kerdoon got Carmen Policy on the air and learned that Policy did not attend because he believed there was an implication that comparisons would be drawn between the two sites. Policy starts off with these remarks:

It started appearing that a proponent of another project that was not consistent with the position of the partnership of the Raiders and Chargers was going to be present and serve as the emcee. We’re being sensitive of and compliant of the wishes of the NFL when it comes to instructions that we, nor should anyone else who is going to be considered for the LA market, we should not be comparing or discussing other projects or be engaged in a beauty contest competition, shall we say. That we should only focus on Carson.

But then Kerdoon asked him specifically whether Fred Roggin’s presence was the obstruction. Listen to the surprising remarks:

So again, and for some reason i find this fascinating, what went down?

Mark Fabiani is a well know spin master and PR professional. So what's the plan? What's the goal?

Do they think they can discredit Inglewood by going after Roggin?

Do they want Mayor Robles out, maybe because of the sexual harassment charges against him?

Did The Raiders leave them with their pants down and they're just trying to spin it into something other than a failure by changing the subject?

Do they just not know what they're doing?

Is Dean Spanos crazy so it's impossible to represent his interests because they keep changing?

Anybody?

These fools are liars. They are not on the same page. Completely disjointed. The Raiders were a no shows because they have a deal in Oakland they don't want to quash by giving credence to the smoke screen project. Policy is just a high paid high profile schister. Spanos is on vacation and they all believe their deal will survive this and Fabiani is just a tool,,, literally.
Bottom line is they either know they are IT or they are sending a fatal message to the NFL that they are buffoons who cannot 'do LA right'.
The deck is stacking against them and time is running out as is the perceived validity of their ruse. What a bunch of scumbags..

Pretty close to home hacksaw. See how they can't get their stories straight? They didn't have their shit together. Now they're all lying about it, trying to save face. One thing that came out of the Carson fiasco for sure. They got on the wrong side of the citizens of Carson. Who knows, maybe that's what they intended. Sometime in the near future its going to come out Carson was never a real option for a stadium, and they knew it all along, which will prove they are liars and manipulators, setting fan against fan, for their own ends. SCUMBAGS. And I put Spanos in there with them.

The Policy plan,,, that didn't last long. He's like the Charaiders version of Brian Williams. He's lost all credibility.

Los Angeles Stadium is doomed....

The winners.

I think the Raiders not being their caught Fabiani off guard. It seems like something happened and the the team representative left before the meeting. Usually Fabiani's story has some basis in truth and he said the Raiders representative was there during the day but had to get back to Oakland.

Robles and Policy aren't Bill and Hillary. SO no clue what there doing.
