With the Rams playing the 9ers again 27 days later, most likely these guys will be out for that second game too.

I'm not one to normally talk about "lack of respect" but SF as 2.5 point favorites is a bit perplexing. I figured it would be pick 'em at worst for the Rams.

One trend that McVay needs to figure out how to reverse is the Rams slowing down after getting a good lead. It happened in the last regular season game against the 49ers last year, the Tampa Bay playoff game, the Super Bowl, the Atlanta game, and yesterday. I know it's a natural tendency in sports but that's just too many times. They need to to pour it on when given that opportunity.

I read some comments on their site. They aren't near as cocky as usual. They've been sour on Garoppolo for a while. So that's nothing new.
They're losing the trust for Shanahan too.

On the surface they seem to be a team that give us matchup problems the way we play defense. We give a cushion on the short stuff. The short stuff is the staple of that offense. Giving too much room plays right into their hands. That 11 minute touchdown drive on their first possession last year was tough to watch. Dinked and dunked all the way to the endzone chewing up a lot of the clock. That something we can't let happen again.

Now the NFCCG was a different story. I don't know what they did differently in the second half but our defense shut their offense down. I hope they review that game film along with this year's. Because its still the same system and quarterback.

If we:

* Limit their production on first down; and
* Give Stafford a reasonable amount of time to throw

... we'll be good.

I've been listening to the niner blowtorch station this week (KNBR), I usually do this after they lose...never after they win, to see what their people are saying about the niners. Greg Papa, niner play-by-play man, hosts a 4 hour show M-F, the scuttlebutt whirls around Jimmy G being Jimmy G (we know what he is, deal with it) and last year's OC is now HC at Miami and Kyle S. did not replace him with anyone. Shanahan is calling the plays for the offense and doing a poor job of it.

That's pretty much the vibe. I've been listening to KNBR so you don't have to...your welcome.

I mean you have to be impressed with the job McDaniels has done with Miami. All I know is the niners hired Anthony Lynn as assistant HC and running backs coach. Never been impressed with the guy offensively.

One of the reasons the Rams went after Bobby Wagner was for the games against the niners.
I expect it to pay off, Go Bobby GO!!

Limit first down production is the key. When the Cardinals were able to move the chains it seemed like they were getting a lot of 3rd and shorts. That's because they gained positive yards on first down. When it was 3rd and 8 our defense was able to get off the field consistently.

With the 49ers you don't want to get into a bunch of 3rd and 2 or 3 yards. You want 3rd and 7 or 8. Makes it tougher for them to throw those quick outs and slants. Stopping first down runs is they way to do that.
