I had an old vhs of Villipiano, Hubbard, Otto, Atkinson and Upshaw talking about Madden before a SB....might have been 2002. Funny as hell. Madden joined them for the finale. I think I gave Bob Carl a copy.

Two of my favorite Madden quotes were

Don't worry about the horse being blind, just load the wagon

This will be the single most important day in your life.....as long as you win.

IIRC, the second one was either part of his pregame SB speech or the entire speech.

unexpectedly? his name has been mentioned so much during nfl broadcasts this month and last that i thought his health was failing quickly and his death imminent.... whatever the case, a true nfl legend and an american icon, rip john madden.

John Madden and John Robinson were childhood friends. Some good stories about their friendship in Madden's first book. I hope he passed peacefully.

Thank you! I enjoyed watching that video several times. I wish I had a digital copy.

Sad to hear. He was a legend on the sidelines and in the booth. He's now up in heaven with Pat Summerall commenting during heaven's Superbowl.
