So, we are having some fairly intense exchange of opinions on Goff. Sadly, and I am a Goff supporter - as in he ain’t great but he can win and he is not the only problem - Herbert, is going to be a stud in this league I believe. Yet and still, his team has problems. HC, offensive philosophy, star player injury issues, etc. But watching him, I can’t help but think he is going to elevate this team for years to come.
And, while I am a Goff supporter, I don’t see him as a transcendent talent. He can’t appreciably lift the play of those around him. He is a facilitator with quality NFL QB traits. He has and can win. But, he won’t ever be elite, or significantly lift the play of those around him - IMO. And that’s ok. IF he has the pieces around him, namely an OL that can give him good to great protection. He can be a surgeon under those conditions. Those conditions can be created. They don’t exist now.
I know Herbert is a rookie. But damn, he looks like the real deal in many ways.
Time will tell who is LAs best QB - based on wins and SBs.

Winningest > Best = Herbert long run. Goff for at least up to now. How would the Chargers look with our D?

how many "transcendent talents" have the rams fielded at the qb position in their 84 year history? how many "transcendent talents" has each team fielded at qb in their franchise history?
i dig herbert, and allen too, love their size and seemingly high ceilings, i dig jackson, mahomes, watson and especially wilson, serious athletic talent from head to toe... but for every transcendent talent that has hit the nfl, far more have either not come close or shined for a brief while only to fade into also-rans.
933 qbs have been drafted since 1960, countless other qbs have joined the league as ufa, of which only 32 own a super bowl ring, while only 11 own more than one.
the notion that the rams need that elite phenom to succeed, that all they have to do is go out and get that elite phenom, just strikes me as fan craziness.
will herbert, allen, jackson, watson, mahomes, or lawrence deliver multiple lombardi trophies to their fanbases? maybe, maybe not - brees has delivered just one, so has rodgers, so has wilson.. favre, namath, dawson, and young only managed one as well - marino, kelly, tarkenton, fouts, moon, jurgensen, anderson, gabriel, mcnair, lamonica, etc., etc., etc., nada.
maybe what most fans really want is a qb that's praised by the talking heads week in and week out, a general consensus top 3 qb that the nfl world marvels at, and why wouldn't they, but to think a guy like this is a shoe-in championship winner, let alone a multiple championship winner, which seems to be what more than a few think, is crazy to me.
hell, if i had a buck for every time i've heard seahawk fans whine about wilson, say that it's time to move on (not sure that it was ever louder than post super bowl 49), i'd recoup my kids' college tuition.

Goff is now 26th in QB passer rating. That’s 2 years in a row of bottom tier performance. Time to take the blinders off fellas and stop blaming McVay and his supporting cast.
The Rams will have some serious decisions to make next year. How do you continue with a QB that holds you back? Next week will give us a glimpse of the post Goff era. It’s with a scrub QB, but something serious is coming next year somehow.

I have serious doubts about the Rams moving on from Goff. Not fears, but doubts. We aren't exactly in good shape to be taking on a better backup, much less cutting ties with Goff and finding TWO QB's. I agree that something has to be done but my guess is that they will be trying to find a way to fix Goff, more than moving on from him.

I get that they will try to fix Goff, but how long do you try if its not working? It’s been 2 years already. Do they spend another entire year trying to “fix” Goff? I think we will see them bring in real competition for him in some form in TC next year.

I don't actually mind them sticking with him as long as they have. They gave him every opportunity to snap out of his funk and didn't split the locker room in the process. But I agree that it's time to give someone else a chance.
If Wolford comes in and wins a game or plays at the same level as Goff, then the Rams have a decision to make. Why pay Goff so much money when they can get the same production from a nobody?
Watching the Wolford videos that A1 posted, Wolford's preseason games with the Rams look a lot like what we've been running and he made some nice throws. Maybe they actually could win with him?

I am hoping that Goff's "injury" gives McVay an excuse to give Wolford a go. It truly can't get much worse than the December Goff.

So Chargers have the best quarterback in LA. Rams have the best defensive tackle in LA. What that means I have no idea. I also have no idea why we're comparing individual players from two teams who only play each other once every 4 years. If its quarterback jealousy I say the Chiefs have the best quarterback in the two west divisions.
