Regardless of whether the NFL’s 32 owners vote to allow the St. Louis Rams to move to Los Angeles, Rams owner Stan Kroenke has plans to go ahead with a multibillion-dollar stadium and entertainment complex in Inglewood, California.

Inglewood Mayor James Butts told Inglewood Today that Kroenke and the city will move ahead on its plans for an NFL level stadium and entertainment venue — if not for the Rams, then for future World Cups, Olympics, award shows and other major events. The stadium is an addition to a planned mixed-use development.

Kroenke announced his plans for a $2 billion NFL stadium on the Inglewood site about a year ago. That kicked into motion a year-long process that is expected to end next week when NFL owners are expected to vote on which team or teams can relocate from their existing markets to Los Angeles. Along with the Rams, the San Diego Chargers and Oakland Raiders are also looking to move to L.A. All three teams filed paperwork Monday with the NFL seeking permission to move.

Officials in St. Louis are hoping the league votes to approve either the Chargers or Raiders — or both — for Los Angeles relocation. That would force Kroenke to remain in St. Louis for the foreseeable future. Kroenke could either accept a proposed $1.1 billion stadium along St. Louis’ north Mississippi riverfront or remain in the Edward Jones Dome and mull his options on a year-to-year basis.

Was just about to post this, by Brian Feldt. Thanks Max.

If this is legit, they can start building while claiming they're not going rogue but still put a lot of pressure on Carson...

I'm going to call bs on this only because building a 2 billion dollar venue for potential scarce events like World Cups, Final Fours, Olympics and so forth without an NFL team seems like a massive stretch. But it could be their way of saying, F you, we're going rogue and basically sand bag Carson.

Our PR folks are just sooo much more sophisticated than Spanos' PR folks.

I see it as Kroenke's way of getting started while not announcing he is moving Rams there. It keeps him ahead of Carson in case the NFL delays for any reason. And if they decide against him, he can threaten to move into Inglewood at least a year ahead of Carson, and that may cause all kinds of problems for the other guys, including GS. Imagine the Rams playing in Inglewood in 2018, and Carson getting delayed due to environment issue and not being ready for another 2 years. Here's the picture the NFL would be looking at.... The Rams in a beautiful new stadium, and the Chargers and Raiders sharing the Coliseum on Sundays. Not a pretty picture for the NFL.

Well, I guess RamsRule(Original Herd) can be chalked up as pro-St. Louis. Went onto their special sub-forum, just for re-location talk and suggested that St. Louis government may be to blame in all of this considering their track record and what they've currently offered as a solution. The thread was quickly locked.

Oh well.

I think we could all spend a couple of hours on here and come up with a plan that's ahead of Carson.

Talk about irony, but what if NFL gives Charaiders approval to move into ESK's Inglewood stadium :)

Do you actually think Spanos would be a tenant to Kroenke?

The crazy thing here is that unless Spanos gets 24 votes at the 11th hour, he is stuck either partnering with Kroenke or going back to SD.

And if he goes back to SD, and Kroenke goes back to STL, then Inglewood still gets built and Kroenke ends up in LA.
