2019- 9-7 no playoffs despite 2 teams with same record in and 1 game behind 2 other teams in at 10-6. One missed FG was the difference between 9-7 and 10-6

Prior to McVay, it had been 14 years since a Rams team won 9 or more games

It took Spagnolo 3 seasons to win 10 games

Between Spags and Linehan they won 6 games in 3 years 2007-2009

The Rams have won 33 games in the last 3 seasons. Only the Saints have more wins in the NFC during that time frame (37) and only the Patriots (36) and Chiefs (34) have more in AFC.

Rams “only” scored 394 points in 2019, they scored a total of 500 in Fishers last 2 seasons combined.

In the 3 year McVay era, the Rams have scored 1400 points, You would have to go back to the previous 5 seasons to reach 1400 points

Goff only threw 22 TD passes, have to go back to 2006 to have a QB throw more, Bulger (24)

Goff has 82 TD passes in 3 seasons with McVay, the Rams as a team had only 88 TD passes in the Fisher era, 5 seasons

Goff threw 16 INT while in the 10 years prior to McVay the conservative Rams threw 167 INT, almost 17 per game

Goff 86.5 passer rating was higher than any Rams team since Bulger in 2006 (91.5)

I think a lot of teams would love to trade positions with us. But I’m pretty happy with where we are and where we’re going

THIS!! Honestly, it sucks we're not in the playoffs, but I'm not as broken up about it as one would think. We finished 9-7. Our third consecutive winning record. 9-7 playing one of, if not THE, hardest schedule in the NFL this year. There were some absolute regressions on the team, on both sides of the ball, but all of it is fixable. I'm disappointed in how the year finished up, but overall, I LOVE this Rams team!! And I fully believe we put the whole league on notice next year.

9-7 sounds light years better than 8-8. Glad they got that last one.

I believe this is the first 3 seasons-in-a-row with a winning record since '99-'01.

honestly i'm still stoned from 2017 - finally, finally, finally the rams had an offense, not just an offense but the second highest scoring offense in the league, and they finally had a franchise qb and a sharp offensive x & o head coach... in the 10 years prior to the 2017 season the rams offense ranked as follows in offensive points scored:

2007 - 28th
2008 - 30th
2009 - 32nd
2010 - 24th
2011 - 32nd
2012 - 28th
2013 - 23rd
2014 - 24th
2015 - 31st
2016 - 32nd

all told, no team ranked worse in offensive scoring than the rams for that 10-year stretch, the rams averaged an anemic 15.1 offensive points per game for the decade, unfirggin' believable.

but as if that wasn't enough, finally fielding a top tier offense while becoming a team you didn't want to face, our guys in horns were in the fuckin' super bowl the following year, with their third year qb and second year head coach, the super bowl, ha ha...

2019? boo hoo, a game shy of another double digit win season, a bounce and kick here and there from not reaching a third consecutive postseason, the horror of it all!

if only rams fans had something to look forward to, like the most beautiful stadium in the world, like (i'm hoping) cool new threads, like a young coach and a young qb that have shown that they can play at the highest level, like a bunch of talented skill position players and generational defensive beast at tackle, if only we just had something.

Yeah, its not all gloom and doom when you look at it from a different perspective. I guess the previous two years spoiled us. Imagine if McVay flipped the years and 9-7 was his first year, scoring almost 400 points. With a QB that threw for over 4600 yards and 22 TD's. I think we'd probably be pretty excited after that.

So McVay has won 33 games in his first 3 seasons as Rams head coach. You'd have to go all the way back to Chuck Knox I (34 wins) to better that, and kudos to CK as he did it in 14 game seasons. You'd also have to go back to John Robinson (84-86) to find a Rams head coach with 3 consecutive winning seasons. So some perspective indeed. 9-7 compared to 13-3 or 11-5 doesn't shine so brightly, but compared to the last 30 years of Rams football? It speaks for itself.

Great thread DB....it's what this fanbase needs IMHO....just a little perspective before we demand the firing of coaches and cutting players, though some of that might happen anyway.

I agree with pretty much everything that has been said in this thread.

I also think that there can be a fine line between success and mediocrity in the NFL, and it can turn on how often the team is the windshield, and how often its the bug. The law of averages would suggest that a team will, over an extended period of time, have a near even number of good and bad bounces (i.e. crucial penalties, missed kicks, tipped balls, actual bounces on fumbles, etc.). However, in the space of a 16 game season, sometimes a team gets more than its fair share of good or bad. This year, I look at three games in particular (@Seattle, @Pittsburgh and @San Francisco), in which single plays turned the outcome against us. I don't really see a similar number of positive "bounces" that gave us games.

So, I'd submit that we were the bug this year.

They didn't have a terrible season, they also didn't have a very good one. 9-7 is 9-7. Mediocre. Doesn't get it done in tough division, sometimes gets you in in a bad division.

Too many no show games. Dallas, Baltimore, Pittsburgh, Tampa at home.

In terms of postseason, not successful. In terms of record, successful. It's a winning season. As I posted in another thread, 12 of 29 teams (41%) who finished 9-7 over the last 10 years, made the postseason (Pittsburgh finished 9-6-1 last year and didn't qualify). Over the last 5 years 47% of 9-7 teams qualified (9 of 19).
