WHAT'S HAPPENED TO LEAGUE OFFENSIVE SCORING?
PostPosted:5 years 8 months ago
headed into week 10...
number of teams averaging 30 or more offensive points per game:
2019 - 0
2018 - 9
number of teams averaging less than 21 offensive points per game:
2019 - 14
2018 - 7
all told, offensive scoring is down 15% when compared to the same period last year - pass tds per game are down 12%, run tds per game are up 6% and field goals made per game are down 5%... moreover pass td / run td ratio is currently 64% / 36%, last year it was 68% / 32%.
interestingly tho, total offensive yards per game are down just 3%, passing yards per game are down just 5%, while rushing yards are up 1%.
clearly the shakeups at the qb position this season are a large contributing factor, but it's clearly more than that given the patriots offensive scoring is down 18%, the rams 28%, the falcons 34%, the chargers 34%, the bears 45%, etc... in fact almost 2/3 of the league's offenses are scoring less offensive points per game headed into week 10 vs the same period last year, while only 12 teams are averaging more - unfortunately for the rams the niners and seahawks are among these 12 teams.
