Nixon receives list of 120 Missouri House members opposed to stadium proposal

By Alex Stuckey

JEFFERSON CITY • Missouri House Speaker Todd Richardson sent Gov. Jay Nixon a list of 120 House members opposed to the proposed St. Louis stadium.

The bipartisan list, included in a letter last month, comes as lawmakers continue to lambast the governor for failing to seek legislative or public approval for the new stadium.

"St. Louis is, and should remain, an NFL city," said Richardson, R-Poplar Bluff. "However, regardless of our desire to see the Rams remain in St. Louis, we will oppose any proposal that undermines the authority of the Missouri General Assembly and the will of the people."

Lawmakers have held several hearings this summer to discuss their problems with the proposal and the governor's lack of communication on it.

Sen. Rob Schaaf, R-St. Joseph, already has sent to Nixon a list of 21 senators opposed to the stadium.

I still think the bill passes. The NFL and Stan Kroenke will almost certainly kill it so why be the bad guy when you can be the victim?

They will pass something. But what will it look like when they examine it?

Sort of like a stool sample.

Another nail. The BoA may pass it through the Ways and Means and perhaps even the full board, but the state legislature is looming with this stated opposition. This can't give the NFL the "certainty" they will require and will likely not be resolved by the deadline.
The fat lady may be warming up.

According to Bernie, he spoke to a bunch of people close to this and feels good that it all gets done. He said these politicians will back down in the end because if they don't they will just hurt the state even more by damaging their rating.

I cannot believe how misguided the Rams fans in St. Lou are. To that degree the Mayor and Peacock. All this work and time wasted and Stan will never agree to the Riverfront. They will be in the same situation if Stan says no and goes year to year. Wasted effort.
